Running two OS's on one PC....

....am I in danger of upsetting the space time continuim if I have windows XP Pro (SP2) on my primary drive and install windows 98SE or MX on a second, or third, drive?

Nope, will work fine... the only thing to be aware of is which order you install them. If you install 98 first and XP afterwards, then it'll work, but if you try it the other way round then you'll be asking for trouble.

Only problem is you wont be able to access the NTFS partition from win 98 se,I would install 98 first though (as I know this way dual boots ok)

that works just fine MrA.
the main problem is using an app to select which to boot on reset, a so called bootloader , you could just add the new win98se to the current xp bootfile but i preferXOSL for its gui and mouse support.

The idea is (here's the techy bit) I want to use my existing XP Pro OS to run all the usual mundane rubbish - downloading porn etc but I also want to run cubase SX3 in a win 98SE or 2000 environment as my Yamaha DS2416 cards will not run (see don't have driver support) post 2000 Op systems.

I was hoping I could just install cubase and the 98SE/2000 drivers for the cards on a separate hard drive. If what I'm reading here is right then it seems entirely possible.

yep , perfectly possible, to keep it simple, you could just choose which drive to boot from the bios, for instance my machine gives the option to press F11 at powerup/reset and choose what device i want to boot.

assuming a standard old style PATA master/slave motherboard, you could just plug in the second drive on the other hd ribbon set for master drive, unplug the first xp master drive and install 98se on that new drive as the only drive installed, plug the original xp drive back on the ribbon then use the bios boot options as and when you want, or install the Xosl on the se drive and that will kick in at boot time and set a timer for it 3 seconds or so.
