Our Company has recently upgraded the network and server. We have moved over to Windows 2003 Server and at the same time gone over to a Domain.
I have a laptop which logs onto the domain at work and I can access all my mapped drives etc and any shared folder I require on the server.
I also want this same laptop to be able to "dial up" to Company Vigor router VPN connection whilst at home and everything appear as if I was in the office (which is what VPN is for afterall!).
When I am at home I log on as normal and the VPN connects fine. I can browse around and see the Company network in Network Neighbourhood. So connection is there and good.
The problem is I do not get the same access as if I was sitting at my desk in the office. I see a select few folders (which only have the files I have accessed) and not the full range. This also means that I don't get access to the mapped drives I need (for example - I need to run Sage Accounts at home as if I was on the network - the folder I map to doesn't appear).
If I log on as Domain Administrator (which I don't want to use) from home as opposed to my day to day log on (everyday user) I get access to everything as if I was in the office.
I am suffering from a privelage / access rights problem here which I cannot put my finger on. Can anyone help?
- "Does your standard user have remote access polices correctly set". As Windows 2003 is new to me (and we are without our resident in house Windows 2003 expert for a few weeks) I feel this is where my problems lie. My knowledge on how to set these runs out! As I state in OP. Overall Admin username and password - goes in no problem.
- Yes we are currently using the VPN on the router and not Windows 2003.
- \\ServerName\SharedFolderName - by entering that I can get access to the folders I can see but not the ones that I know are there and cannot see!
I have seen this before - never fixed it. It was a similar setup - remote site connecting to main site via VPN. I feel it's something to do with authentication.
I have found there to be issues with IP address's, basically make sure your home network ip is on a differetn subnet to the office.. ie 192.68.0.1 and 192.168.0.10 can cause problems whereas 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.54.1 works fine.

Totally different subnet and of course the Admin user and password works on the exact same set up.
