Racism in Gaming - A different perspective

Have a look at this, essentially its (i am led to believe) an old black woman phoning up to complain about a game called Castle Crashers which is due to come out soon on the Xbox, which - somehow - she's managed to see a video off.

As far as she's concerned this is effectively the KKK v's Blacks and you know what, when you look at it from her point of view (given thats she's old, not really familiar with video games, probably been racially abused during her childhood etc) you can kind of see where she's coming from even though i don't doubt for a second that there is no intention from the developers to portray anything like this and its all coincidental.

What i find most interesting is the way that some things can be viewed by different people due to their background or culture in a completely different light, turning what is effectively an innocent game into a white supremacist tool.

Have a look and hear the call...

I actually think its a shame that the company responsible released this (and i know that's a bit hypocritical as im posting this here) but a responsible company would have perhaps phoned her back to discuss it with her and try and set things right rather than releasing this on the internet so all of us can have a good giggle at her.

What do you think?

I have to say though - check out the comments on the posting, poor!

Well I see nothing rascist in the game, sure you have different 'coloured' players, only reason for this IMHO is so that you know who to fight

As for the comments, apart from 1 or 2, the rest, as far as I can see, must have been written by a sub-standard, inbreed, or a chimp

No I don't either, but the point is from her POV it could look like it is.

I think, and it's not a personal attack, that she must be a bit confused, after all, the game characters where deffinitely not 'black and white' there were no hoods and no crosses, as far as I saw at least, I think she read waaaay to much into the game, every shoot 'em up has teams, sides, and if you wanted to, you could swing that anyway to form an opinion / likeness to a lot of battles, Call of Duty and Medal of Honour are 2 that come to mind straight off, they use actual battle loacations and 'teams' countries, I don't think I've read any anti game posts anywhere about them.

i think the lady's being a wee bit sensitive and the company's indulging in a lame bit of viral marketing at her expense.
