Talktalk Broadband Modem Installation Problem

Hey

I recently had to *sigh* "fix" my windows installation using the Windows XP disc, the rescue of Windows XP was fine but when i logged back into Windows, i knew i had to re-install the modem as the drivers would have been deleted by the "fix."

I inserted by disc and did all of that, inserted the cable modem and it asked me to restart the computer which i did, when i logged back onto windows after the restart the Modem was detected by the computer and it gave me the all clear to start the connection,i was about to but realised the Talktalk connection shortcut was not on my desktop (which the installation normally puts their) so i went around my computer trying to find it to no avail, then i noticed a tab at the bottom of the screen, i clicked on it and it opened and the

"The installation was sucessful, your computer needs to restart"

windows came up AGAIN, so i restarted but the same thing happened again, i uninstalled talktalk and reinstalled but it continued to do the same thing....

Has this got something to do with the registry or something else?...

Presumably the modem is internal to your computer? If so have a look in control panel (calssic view) > system select hardware and Device manager. Delete every entry for the modem and any network cards, toghether with any question marked or crossed out devices. Then restart the PC and see if it can detect correctly.

If the modem is external, then I'd do the same, but just delete any network drivers. Make sure that when you reboot the PC you also reboot the modem.

Re: Talktalk Broadband Modem Installation Problem

Nope that didn't work

I discovered something new today though, i installed the modem onto my laptop to test the disk and it installed fine but it didn't ask for the system to be restarted, so the restarting process my computer is asking for shouldn;t be executing.

Also when i install the modem onto my computer

A. The Connection does not appear in the Network Connection Window (Which it did on the laptop without restarting)
B. The Connection Shortcut that should appear on the Desktop does not appear AND it does not appear in the talktalk section in the All Program menu in Start.
