Post RS error woes

Hi,

We're getting glitchy pictures on our DTV service. We've had this before and I've had an engineer out twice, one whom renewed all the connectors and changed the double-tap isolator to a single, and fitted a 6dB attenuator to the back of the box, and another who replaced our wobbly old Pace box with a Samsung.

I've had a look in the engineering menu and really, I can't spot anything wrong. SNR for the DVB pages is a good 32dB, and there doesn't seem to be anything obviously out of tolerance. Also our cable modem feed, connected on the same drop, is working fine, even though it's SNR is only 29dB

I have noticed Post RS error messages in the event log however, which would explain the glitchy pictures.

What should I do ? I am concerned that if I call out another engineer, he will find no fault and we will then incur a charge.

(incidentally I found a bug in the Samsung boxes - if you scroll too far back in the Event log, the box crashes!)

Can anyone from NTL here suggest what to do ?

Re: Post RS error woes

is it happening on all channels or just certain streams?

You won't incur a charge for the engineer- if they are in doubt about there being a fault they can look at the logs and see the PostRS errors...

If you go use the network status screen (page up, page down, blue) when the problem is actually occurring, do you see Pre/Post RS errors there? and are the signal strengths showing as normal?

Re: Post RS error woes

i think it's all streams. I've certainly noticed it on a lot of channels.

I will check during viewing as you say. I was actually looking for the button sequence that brought up that little window
