War of The Worlds SACD

Hello,

Just bought "War of The Worlds" SACD / Hybrid - the Remastered 5.1 version - droped it into the DVD player (Pioneer DV-575A) linked to Sony STR-DE875 digital amp via digital coax link - hit play to hear....nothing.

Dropped in a DVD - plays 5.1 perfect, put WOTW SACD back in hit play - nothing....

Anybody know what's going on? Duff disc? It plays ok on standard CD player...

I've checked the setup on the Pioneer - I can get it to play in standard 2 ch mode but not 5.1...any ideas?

Lee

SACD's can play up to 6 channels, depending on the coding/layers.

Re: War of The Worlds SACD

Could it be to do with the setup / config on the DVD player?

Re: War of The Worlds SACD

The optical and coaxial outputs are only capable of up to 24-bit/48khz stereo.
They do not support the amount of bandwidth that is required for SACDs with 5.1 channels.
Usually, decoded 5.1 analogue phono outputs are provided on the player for this purpose. Alternatively, an HMDI port or some other type of high bandwidth digital output is utilized.
The 5.1 channel soundtracks on DVDs are compressed, resulting in a lower bandwidth requirement and also lesser sound quality than 5.1 SACD.

Re: War of The Worlds SACD

Indeed, you need to use 5.1 the analogue out when listening to surround SACD, it will not be sent through the digital outputs.

I have both the 575A and the WOTW SACD's and they play perfectly through the analogue out.

I also have the War of the Worlds SACD and a Denon DVD-3910 player.
I can hear it either through the Denon Link digital output or the analogue outputs.
But of course, not from the optical and coaxial digital outputs.
