Versamail & NTL

I have versamail installed on a Treo 650 and am trying to set it up to pick up my NTL mail, but when I test the connection (pop.ntlworld.com), I get the following error.

The specified server is invalid or is not responding.
Cannot form a connection to the server.

Is this not possible, or should I be pointing somewhere else?

Thanks.

Newbie, to Cableforum.

Sadly, I don't use NTL email myself, but somebody who does should be along soon.

you can only directly access the NTL pop server from an NTL connection, however you should be able to access your mail using the webmail interface

http://webmail.ntlworld.com/

then input your user name & password

You sure? (maybe I should try it!). Just that I thought it was only outgoing mail (smtp.ntlworld.com) which had to come from an NTL connection. May be wrong, though.

I'm not sure, but trying webmail seemed like a good place to start

- I'm always ready to be wrong - on the basis of there being no point in trying to avoid the inevitable

Re: Versamail & NTL

You should be able to POP from any connection, it's just SMTP that's restricted to the ntl network.

Re: Versamail & NTL

OK. Even though the "Connection Test" gives me the error I originally mentioned, I am still able to connect and download the contents of my inbox.

Guess I should have checked this rather than trusting the Connection Test

Sorry for posting before checking.

Thanks.

Re: Versamail & NTL

IIRC believe the connection test in outlook tries to send a mail to yourself, this will fail so probably what caused the error.
