It's us again !!!!!

Well, we've tried and got nowhere and we're losing the will to live, yet another long night at bb31's house trying to sort out the wireless connection.

We have a DSL-G604T router, wireless cards in pc and laptop and can we get it to work, can we heck !!!!

Both pc's are recognising the (we call it "Goaty") connection but it's saying limited or no connection. IP address of 169. We've unplugged everything 3 million times, tried different cables and still no joy. We can't open the "192.168.1.1" address for Goaty.

It's friday night, I'm tired, Lisa's suicidal and we are about to launch everything through the window.

Can someone tell us where we're going wrong cos all we do is keep laughing and need someone to do the work for us.

Just how far have you got - is the router setup (as in connected to your NTL/ADSL??? line) or is that what you are trying to do?

And what dosent get the 192.168.1.1 address? If you havent set anything up yet - it could be that you need to manually set your network card up on your PC to be in the same subnet (i.e. 192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0) before it can be configured.

How technical are you too?

Also if its getting a 169 ip address thats a ip from windows not the router. Whats happening is the router is not issuing a dhcp address to the pc's. Quite why its not depends on the settings for that router but my linksys one did it today for no reason. I think It may have been a ip address conflict.

ahhhhh, is it a bt adsl router thing. I had a issue when i set up the adsl here because the router had 192.168.1.1 and so did the adsl modem, changed the ip on the router to 192.168.2.1 and everthing just dropped into place.

I thought the DSL-G604T was and ADSL router anyway so the ADSL modem won't be in use now anyway. Use ethernet for the initial setup, 9 times out of 10 the Dlinks come with the wireless turned off. Once a PC is connected via ethernet (in XP) make sure the ethernet connection is set to auto for obtaining IP and DNS, then check under tool>connections in IE (or equivalent in whatever browser you use) and uncheck any proxies and 'always dial' settings.
