Change in Audio with new Samsung Set-Top Box

With the old box I used to be able to get my PS2 sound and the VCR sound via the Home Cinema System. All I had to do was turn off the set-top box, otherwise I would get the sound from that instead.

I recently had the Samsung box installed and now if I switch off the set-top box I get no sound at all.

It was like the old boxes used to let sound pass through them (everything is plugged via the set-top box) but now when the Samsung box is off, it really is off.

Getting the PS2 sound via the home cinema system is not a major problem. I can connect into a different input on the cinema system, but what about the video? That has to run via the set-top box to the home cinema system otherwise it would not be able to record from the set-top box. Or am I missing something?
