Will NTL Pull out of LE3 Leics in next 5 years?
As some will know I moan about the lack of digital tv service in my area, and this problems covers a fair proportion of LE3 areaof Leicester, I dont know about other sub regions.
Another problem exists only 1.5 miles from me that there is no NTL broadband, my sister cannot get it, and so I told her to ring NTL to clarify since I found it odd that I can get it and she couldnt. The rep told her the only reason he could think of that she cannot have broadband is that another provider has a dominence in her area. Now BT have enabled all exchanges for ADSL in Leics years ago and it is fair to say LE3 has a lot of sky customers, my sister herself has sky digi in her living room and analogue ntl in her kids rooms and she also has a ntl phoneline. She is in a perculiar position of been out of range for ADSL and she doesnt want to have a BT phoneline.
So NTL seem unfussed that they dont have broadband in her area (according to that rep) and LE3 has no digital tv, with analogue tv signals been disabled over the next few years will NTL pullout, or have they got alternate plans such as BB and TV over ADSL2 platform? Would be very interesting to know.

They will probably pull out just to get away from you

You will go straight to hell for that one
There again it might be ripe for a takeover by a certain heating company

Yeah, they'll just ripup all the duct and cable network that they spent millions putting in.

one thing at a time. ntl are upgrading london, and that must be costing them a lot. give them a year to get that done, then maybe they'll move on.....
well, unless the telewest merger does something amazing, which tbh, will probably hold up upgrading further.

Can you just clarify for me at least, does LE3 have any NTL service at all? is there an analogue service there at moment and are you wondering when they will upgrade for Digital and BB?

Doubt it.
London, IMHO is a far more lucrative business than Leicester, and that is no mark on Leicester either. ntl needed to upgrade their London network so they could compete with the extensive ADSL options in that area.
It may be the case that 5 years down the line they will upgrade Leicester, but ntl are also looking at other emerging technologies, which may provide services in the Leicester area that do not require significant dip ups

My post was serious thanks for taking it seriously.
LE3 does have a service, I don't know exactly how much is covered but as far as I know all of it has analogue tv and phone service and some of it has broadband but not all of it. But if analogue was to be turned off then the areas which currently have no broadband could potentially just be offering a phone service.
The area I am in has BB but not where my sister lives.
To Paul M, you are lucky to be in an area that may have no issues and recieve a very good service from NTL but not everyone has the same experience and why you keep acting like a kid with personal attacks I dont know, some people will take your views as of cableforum since you are a moderator. My question was serious, if you had no answer to it then why reply?

to add to this I think the cabling was laid over 10 years ago by a different cable company so it may well be whatever investment NTL put in they have got their money back already.

Yep which is why I mentioned ADSL2, that might be a cheaper option then to digitialiase the current network.

Rats, all that money so far that's been spent on digital compatible network plant has been wasted then
Seriously not much to say, loads of dosh has already been spent in Leicester getting networks digital ready along with breaking them down for better broadband connectivity, not much else to say really as I don't know any more than that.

Very very much doubt it. Had they gotten anywhere near getting their investments back wouldn't have had to go through bankruptcy protection and trade billions in debt for equity.

News to me, but glad its good news , I knew the broadband upgrading was done, and if they were going to pullout then yeah I guess they wouldnt have done the upgrades but I knew nothing of the other stuff.
You think it could be done for sometime in 2006?
