Question Music System Setup Question

As the CD player in the kitchen has given up the ghost I was thinking of maybe getting a laptop to use as MP3, CD player and some surround speakers/woofer etc. Looking for something not too pricey. Anybody got this type of setup or similar suggestions?

Re: Music System Setup Question

For the sort of money that would cost, why not get a midi unit for radio/CDs with an Auxilliary input for a portable MP3 player. That'll be a fraction of the cost and for the money will give a better output.

Re: Music System Setup Question

Does it have to be a laptop? A lot of small hi-fi units come with CD players that can handle MP3 these days. Or you can get wireless speakers Seems a little excessive paying for a laptop just for music playback??

No - does not have to be a laptop. I was just looking for some suggestions really. A decent set of speakers and some kind of IPOD-like thing could work I guess

Re: Music System Setup Question

You can get an I Pod docking station
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...377706-3662228
but I can't say what the speaker output would be like. You can get systems where you can transmit music via electrical wiring (socket circuit in house) to a receiver, it was posted on the forum a while back. What money are you looking to spend and what would you want it to be capable of?

Re: Music System Setup Question

If you dont want to spend much, I'd reccomend these.
They are cheap but do the business in a kitchen or office and I've heard them and they are quite good.

Speakers

Re: Music System Setup Question

yeah - those look good. Is there such a thing as, sort of, like a stationary Ipod (e.g you can load MP3s onto) etc - but more chunky and less moveable?

Re: Music System Setup Question

If you have a wireless network, could get an apple AirPort Express and some speakers, that would connect to the network and stream music to anywhere in the wirless cloud.
