Question Windows 98 probs...

My Win98 pc is connected wirelessly to router ok, however internet explorer says " detecting proxy settings" then the homepage appears then "page not found dns error". All my settings look ok, can anyone techies out there help.
Please spare me the "throw it in the bin" comments regarding win98 lol!!!

Probably best start by telling us the IP address of your computer.

is there an faq on when, although, posting your IP or MAC can be a good thing, it is, also, best kept private

Why is it detecting a proxy server? Untick all the boxes in LAN settings.

The OP's computer is behind a router so it will not have his public IP address. Instead, it will be some sort of local IP - which is of no use to anyone trying to be malicious.
