Issue with broadband? or is it my PC?

I just started getting this problem ,and even after an OS reload from scratch, I still get it

I'm running XP Pro, Service pack 2
I wanted to download a bunch of iso's for Linux and frequently use Azureus (Bittorrent) as my download program
When running the program, it's operating slowly, to say the least
Downloads never go higher than 30kb/sec (I'm on the 2mb service)
Also, while running this program, or any bitorrent program, anything else internet based, like surfing, checking emails or even sending Instant messages via AIM/Yahoo/ICQ sometimes fail or are VERY slow
I've capped the upload speed, as I alllways do, to 5kb/sec, so it's not like my line is saturated or anything
The only thing I could think of was the connection limit in XP, so I bumped that from 10 to 100, but it's still the same.

Anyone know what might be causing this? Before, I never used to have a problem and could download at 200kb/sec before noticing any performance problems.

If you're running a firewall, have you tried checking the logs? Bittorrent traffic sometimes makes my router go a little potty so that it requres a reboot.
Also, remember that with bittorrent your download speed can be dependant on your upload speed.

That was one of the reasons I stopped using using Azureus, everything was dead slow while it was running. Using Bit Comet now and if you tweak a few settings, you can surf and everything else while downloading.

On NTL, BitTorrent stuff seems to run poorly down to the tiny upload speed we get for the level of service and when you max out the upload, the download dies because the ACK packets cant get thru. If you are downloading Linux ISOs, why not get them over HTTP/FTP using the mirror sites of the particular distro or searching www.linuxiso.org ?

I would go along with what Zeph has said...

If you search on linuxiso.org for the distro you're after, and then when you find the file name, search for it on google - you sometimes find more mirrors than linuxiso's site shows. When I got MDK10.1 Official DVD, the mirrors that linuxiso had were really slow for me, so I googled the iso filename and found one which I was able to get it down quickly from

I've never been a fan of torrents so I cannot advise any further as I've never used them
