Smile Constant engaged tone..

Hiya.

I have had my twin pack of NTL d5100 and d505 phones for about 2 years now.
Today, i have tried to ring out on the phone which has the answering machine attached to it, and all i am getting is the engaged tone, but the phone upstairs is working ok.
I can get incoming calls on the main phone, but i can't seem to find my booklet for the phones. Could any of you out there give me some advice?
Thanks, Jinny.

Re: Constant engaged tone..

Hi & Welcome to the site Jinny.

Sounds to me like either the base unit has had its power supply interrupted or the phone itself isn't registered with the base unit (someone else being playing with them possibly? )

What is it showing on the LCD display on the phone thats got the issue?

Should you need to re-register the phone with the base unit again then see here for the procedure (taken from the Instruction manuals) to register phone to base unit for the d5100 set.

Hope this helps.

Unhappy Re: Constant engaged tone..

Thanks Mick,

I tried doing what you said, and it still doesn't work, the only thing i can think of is that last night, my hubby rang me from home as i was out, and when i came in i noticed he hadn't switched the phone off, (he didn't press the green button to end the call)and it said on the screen; 74 mins! so i am wondering if that has anything to with it? like i say, i can get incoming calls, and i can ring out on the other extention line, i have tried unplugging it a couple of times today thinking it may re-set itself, but obviously it hasn't!
It's so frustrating as i have to take the other phone round the house with me now if i need to make a call! nevermind, i will see how it goes, maybe i need a new phone altogether, as i have noticed the power in the the phone doesn't hold for as long as it should do, Thanks anyway, Jane.

If it is the batteries then you could try testing the batteries in the working phone and transfer them over to the one that isn't. I have these set of phones but I do not use both bases and I usually charge one phone whilst the other is out on standby and I alternate between the two until they need charging again, doing this I believe ensures that the batteries rechargeable life is extended and that sufficient standby time whilst off charge, is maintained.
