Probs with DVD Rec.
Someones gotta help me.
I have recently got myself a Ellion 900A DVD recorder.
My problem is the recording. I connect my NTL box to the back of the dvd with a scart cable. I then have another scart cable from the AV Out on the dvd player which goes into my TV.....not a problem you may say. But it is! Ive always linked my players in this way in the past but with this recorder, if you turn it off, it wont allow the signal to go from the NTL box through the dvd into the tv! Any ideas??
If i connect my NTL box to AV1 on the telly and the DVD to AV2 i then cannot record programs as the dvd cannot 'see' the NTL signal. If anyone has any ideas.....you will be my GOD!!!!

Re: Probs with DVD Rec.
Doesn't your STB have two scarts? My Pace DI4001N does. One that goes to the TV and one that goes to the DVDR or VCR. Surely that's the way to do it.

Re: Probs with DVD Rec.
In my experience, DVD Recorders have a button (usually marked Video or VCR) that passes the input from AV2 straight out to AV1.
Don't know if your one does.

Re: Probs with DVD Rec.
There seems to be a firmware upgrade available depending on what firmware you are running now
http://www.elliondigital.com/support.htm
Doesn't say what it fixes though Site is very slow, still waiting on the manual (3Mb) trickling along at 14KB/s lol

Re: Probs with DVD Rec.
These are all fantastic ideas.
Flubflow - i could use the two scarts on the set top box but then i wont be able to record on the dvd as there will be no 'input' just an output from the dvd recorder.
For me to record from my NTL box i need the cable to go from set top box to the AV IN on the recorder....unless there is another way to record...?
Scastle - Im afraid there is no such button on the back (or anywhere) on this machine.
Paul - Upgrade may resolve this but as you say it doesn't tell you what it fixes and besides, i dont have a burner on my PC to make the disc.
Keep the ideas coming!!!

The scart socket on the STB marked "VCR" is both input and output. It should just go to the main scart on the DVDR (which should also be input and output). When you record you should have the same signal from the STB as you see on the TV output. When you play a DVD the STB should automatically switch & route the DVD signal to the TV scart output. That's the way it works with a VCR and I would think a DVDR would be exactly the same.

Re: Probs with DVD Rec.
The scart socket on the STB labelled VCR does not output an RGB signal - it only carries composite video. For the best picture quality, a DVD recorder should always be positioned between the STB (TV scart) and the TV itself.
If the DVD recorder doesn't pass through the signal when it is in standby then there is a design fault with it and you should return it.

Possible but not likely.
As scastle said most DVD Recorders have a button that passes the input from AV2 straight out to AV1.
