When is a Service not a Service?
Hello everyone!
Right this is my first post, and its a bit of a rant.
I was a dialup user of NTL for 3 or 4 years, then I decided to get broadband. I already had a website and a dialup email user. So what did NTL do without telling me? They deleted my website, and never told me. Those damned dirty apes.
It would have been okay if they had told me about this when I decided to go to Broadband, but no, that would be good customer service.
Uploading to my new webspace is an absolute nightmare. I've read all the threads here (no help on the NTL site of course) and I still cannot upload. It all worked okay with the dialup. Those damned dirty apes.
Anyway, enough about my troubles. No... wait. One more. Does anyone else use NTL webmail. Thats another nightmare. When it does work, why oh why oh why should you have to enter the @ntlworld.com bit. Oh those damned dirty apes.
Well, thats better now its all off my chest.
Love and kisses to all.

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
Yeah, Bill C, but dont you think the way I've been treated is a bit shabby? Why should I have to rely on the good nature of humans on this board to help me sort my problem out?
What am I actually paying money to NTL for?

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
You have a point there but please remember that the NTL guys and girls on here go the extra mile to help people out.
Have you raised this issue with NTL at all ?

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
the only FTP i can get to work reliably with NTL is Filezilla. Either that or resort to IE6

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
I just used drag and drop from IE and it worked quite well.
Incog.

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
Hi. Actually I did not realise there were NTL people on here. Boy am I embarrassed *pauses a while for readers to feel my embarrassment*.
I've emailed my problems to NTL on several ocasions, but was simply pointed to the FTP setting page on NTL help. Annoying thing is that it does not even give the settings, well, I could not find them anyway.

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
Firstly,
 to the CF Orior.
As you've already discovered there's a whole wealth of information here that may, or may not, help you on the path to true NTL enlightenment.
Secondly, I didn't read Orior's post as an attack against all NTL staff. I thought that it was aimed at the people (or, more likely, the processes) who had perpetrated the horrible crimes described in it. I also took it to be more tongue in cheek than some others may have read it.
I can understand why people would be upset to read it, especially today when the NTL service staff seem to be coming in for more that their fair share of stick, but it's just a tongue in cheek rant - much the same as many of us post here about other companies faults.
I don't imagine that the OP ever intended any offence, I'm sure he/she (?) recognises as much as I do, the great asset that the NTL bods represent to this forum - and of course that there are some good NTL CS staff (who know what they're talking about, care about their customers, and go out of their way to help them wherever possible).

That's exactly how I saw it.
It was quite a relaxed "rant" to be honest.

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
Hello folks,
Thanks for the replies guys. To know me is to love me, and to love me is to understand my humour. And I draw on all my favourite films to sustain my imaginary world.
Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢m using Core FTP Lite. The settings are
Host IP URL: upload.ntlworld.com
Username: myusername without the †˜@ntlworld.comà¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â⠂¬Å¾Ã‚¢ bit
Password: thatâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s a secret so it is
Port: 21
Nothing unusual there eh? I am on NTL broadband and on the network properties I am obtain IP address automatically and the same with DNS server address.
Hereâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s what I get when I try to log in:
Welcome to Core FTP, release ver 1.3, build 1287 (U) -- © 2003
WinSock 2.0

Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ve tried both my original password and the current one that I use for email.
When I tried the log on using Microsoft Internet Explorer, I get a message saying Windows cannot access the folder. Make sure I have permissions to that folder blah blah blah. The FTP session was terminated.
Anybody got any clues?

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
So now its coming up to another anniversary. I got NTL Broadband in on 16th December, four months ago.
Four months since they deleted my website, and provided me with another webspace that I cannot upload to.
It would even have been helpful if NTL had told me about this website, but instead I came across it by accident. What do you people think I should do next?

Re: When is a Service not a Service?
