Remote Control
I am considering having my NTL channels upstairs in my bedroom. As I cannot afford another box I'm going to run a coaxil cable through the ceiling. I have recently seen on ebay an infared remote device that enables you to change the channels from another room.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWA:IT
It says in the description that my STB needs to use the remotes that are pictured (DI4001). I have a DITV1000 box with the old style remote. Do I need to purchase the remotes shown or will my current remote work with the equipment??

Re: Remote Control
Unfortunately the 1000, 1000b and 2000 boxes use a strange remote control protocol which is incompatable with most remote senders.
The solution is either to get an expensive remote sender which is compatible (there are some, but I can't remember the models off the top of my head), or use a Red Eye device. This translates ordinary remote control signals into the funny IrDA ones that the 1000 and 2000 use. You can find out more, and order one, from www.redremote.co.uk, but basically this would allow you to use any old remote sender you like.

Re: Remote Control
No.
It's a bit confusing, because there are actually two "new style remotes" that look almost the same, but are different internally.
The Pace 1000, 1000b and 2000 boxes only understand a non-standard remote protocol. The remote controls for these boxes are dark grey, and are either a long thin control (with a glow-in-the-dark OK button), or a grey "new style" remote. Most remote senders do not work with these remote controls. The Red-Eye system is available for translating ordinary infra-red signals into the odd protocol that these boxes use.
All other boxes, that is, the Pace 4001, 4010, 4000* and Samsung 2100 can use standard infra-red frequencies. The remotes used for these are blue, and come in two varieties. They can be used with regular remote senders.
I hope that makes things a bit clearer.
* Before someone points it out, black remotes are currently given out as standard with Pace 4000 boxes. They do support the use of blue remotes, however.

Re: Remote Control
LOL
Nope its still no clearer. All I need to know is:
- will my old style remote (long thin) work with the item in this link
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWA:IT
Sorry to be such a pain, but i don't want to buy it if it won't work, nor do I want to drill a hole threw my ceiling for no reason.
Please be patient

Re: Remote Control
I have checked my friends STB and he has the same model as me, which is the DITV 1000. He uses the same remote as the one pictured on the ebay auction ( D1004).
So I have ansered my own question on this topic but I would like to say thanks for all the input you have gave me.
Many regards
Pablo

There are two new style remotes and as you can see, both styles will work with the item i wish to purchase.

Re: Remote Control
No no no.
There is one new remote "style". They look the same apart from the colour -- there is a blue one which works with all remote senders, and a grey/black one which doesn't work with most of them.
If your friend has a Pace 1000, then he'll have a black remote. This is incompatible with most remote senders, including the one in your link. The clue is that it says you need a 4001 box -- these use the blue remotes only.
The two remote controls pictured in your link are the "old style" and "new style" blue remotes. I'm afraid your control won't work unless you use a Red Eye translation device.

Re: Remote Control
The Remote Sender that you need for a Pace DiTV1000 STB is the AEI Digieye, available from Index stores- product code 551-541.
If you wish to avoid using a coaxial cable for the TV signal, then the AEI DRG 400 Digisender Gold x4 (Index product code 551-540) can transmit the TV signal to a supplied receiver that also transmits the IrDA remote control codes back to the STB.Other equipment such as a VCR or DVD player can also be connected.
Additional receivers can also be obtained -Index product code-551-535.
The AEI DRG 400 Digisenders are also available from Argos and Maplin stores.
