Strange Phone Calls....
Hope someone can help?
My Mum keeps getting phone calls from different numbers but all starting 0866.... When she picks up the phone no one talks!!!!! She has tried dialing the number back and she gets a reply saying number not recognised..
Phoned NTL today and they advised me to contact the Police.
Any ideas please?

Re: Strange Phone Calls....
086xx isn't yet allocated by ofcom. So that really doesn't make sense. Can you give a couple more digits of the phone number, and tell us the total number of digits. That might help.
It could be some sort of premium rate scam, but that would only make sense if it was an 090xx number...

Re: Strange Phone Calls....
my sister used to get these calls so ive got her on tps and the calls have stopped,as far as i understand a computer dials say 100 numbers with 25 operators ready to take calls, only the first 25 to answer will speak with anyone the remainder get the silence,i'd recommend tps its free and it works, search on google and it'll bring it up you reg online...........easy!!

Re: Strange Phone Calls....
I've been getting a few calls lately. Not done a 1471, but nobody talks for about 30 secs then an automated american woman starts her blurb to get your to buy something. Have never listened to it for more than a few secs after that.

I have had this much of the day - and this evening it switched to an asian person trying to sell me an orange phone.

Gutted as it was a recorded message.

Er, if NTL think the Police should be involved why aren't they taking action? Answers on a postcard...

Because NTL are not a Criminal Ivestigation Agency if the CSR believed there to be Criminal action's involved in these calls it is best left to the Police to Investigate and they will get NTL to help if they believe it is necessary.
But lets just dig at NTL instead as thats easier have a rep

I do apologise for suggesting NTL should exercise some corporate responsibility. Most remiss of me.

Nuisance calls need to be investigated by the police, if we block these calls the police will not be able to trace the source of them and if we intervene we could possibly ruin any chance of legal action being taken.

I got calls from this (or a similar 0866 number) but I did not bother answering them as I did not recognise the number.
