Caller ID/Voicemail Problems
Hi
Without boring you with all the unnecessary details over the last few weeks I have rang NTL on at least 4 occasions requesting that caller ID be added. Each time I am told that this IS available in my area (I have an IP postcode if anyone would like to check) and would be on within 24 hours. As yet I have no caller ID. I have been told that there is a internal computer technical error (due to a new system), which is stopping new services being added onto my phone line but the IT guys are onto it. Stranger still is that my voicemail, which I have had for years, has disappeared, again apparently for the same reason. Now I feel that I have been reasonably patient about this but am really considering ditching NTL, due to the fact that I am also sick of having to reboot my STB everyday (do Sky have this problem?), not having services added that I have requested for weeks, customer services staff that half the time sound like they are trying to get rid of you or else reading from a book of excuses (although one or two have been friendly and helpful to be fair), making card payments that for no reason are being rejected resulting in loss of services, taking unauthorised payments from a debit card, and I'd like to add unacceptable holding times when trying to get through to CS. Is anybody else having similar issues?

Re: Caller ID/Voicemail Problems
Caller Id is dependent on the type of phone you have, as not all are compatiable with ntl's service

OK, just checked - CLID is 'subject to availability' in your area... what type of phone do you have?

As far as I can tell it should be caller ID compatible.

How do you know whether or not a particular phone is compatible? Do NTL have a list or do you - as I suspect - actually have to buy a phone first to find out. I purposely didn't buy a NTL brand phone as a friend of mine was told the reason why he could not get caller display was because of his phone (made by NTL). This is ridiculous. Do BT have these issues?

I thought all CLID phones would work on BT - what phone line was you friend trying to use with their "NTL" phone?
NTL do have a list and it is on this forum here but it mostly just lists NTL and C&W phones. I would suspect that any phone made by The Alba Group would work as they probably all use the same "technology".

So basically as I have a BT branded phone I can't get caller display on the NTL network. And in all my phone calls to NTL customer services nobody has actually asked me what make my phone is.

*Shaking my head* Wrong, wrong, wrong,
I know from first had experience that NTL branded phones do not always work on the Network, and a lot of BT ones do.
There is a huge amount of contributing factors to CLI issues that I could sit here all day and type out. They vary from Gain (alegedly) changes, to noise enducement on the line, in the cab, in the MUX...the list really is endless.
What I suggest to you is to get the CSR's to e-mail your details to your local Switch team, they will check if you can have CLI, if you can they will enable it on the switch. They will then ring you to test it, and if needs be they will set up the *coughs* gain on your line to the correct setting.
If this all fails, then they will send out a Network Technician who can check the other variables out, and make the changes needed. I hope I have'nt sent you to sleep with this, but trust me *Grinning* I am a....ummm, person that knows

Re: Caller ID/Voicemail Problems
Amazing. I have just noticed that caller display IS now working. Fantastic . Also, anonymous caller rejection is on but strangely voicemail, although now working, has reverted to the free service. I'm tempted to ring NTL re: voicemail, as I think this is what I'm actually paying for, although I really don't want to rock the boat as everything's working. Have NTL sorted out their supposed computer problems? I'm very surprised as I kept calling them about this a while ago and honestly thought I was being fobbed off. So well done NTL.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
