Cambridge Area Outage?
Does anyone know if there is an outage in the Cambridge area today? Nothing shows on the NTL status. My cable connection dropped around 10.am. Modem is fine (checked): system is o.k. And I can get online via old 56 dialup connection. This is what my ethernet cable "connection" shows:
IP 192.168.100.3
SubnetMask 255.255.255.0
Router 192.168.100.254
Using Mac OX Panther 10.3.6.

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
Modem is offline- hence the local ip address. Are the sync and rdy lights out on the modem?
Tech support is 0845 650 0121 and they are open until midnight

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
No... all lights are functioning normally At the moment (looking down)
Power is on: Enet and D/S are both blinking: Synch and Ready are on and steady. Thanks for welcome and quick response.

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
Thanks Monkeybreath, panic over... although I've refreshed the modem three times already today I did call the support number and instead of waiting in the queue decided to follow their refresh suggestion.. only longer. I left both modem and computer off for more than three minutes.... then waiting again more than three minutes after switching on modem before rebooting.... this time the connection held. I give the lengthy times in case they're useful to anyone in the future.... far more than the "30 seconds" usually advised. Again. Thanks for your help.

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
Thanks Matt. See previous message: all well north of the Cam now: though service (750) has dropped completely, for a few minutes at a time, on several occasions during the past two weeks: that's why I thought it gone completely today, after two modem resets. I appreciate your local reassurance.

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
I was seeing 95% packet loss on pings to the gateway 80.4.4.254 yesterday, and about 50% loss today, from cable modem in CB4 1xx area. Could not report fault yesterday (Sunday, office shut). Signal levels fine, but terrible packet loss on cable to gateway. Pings to gateway from outside world are fine. Pings to me from outside world are terrible. Am now stuck in call centre queue.

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
Update: (Quote) Cambridge UBR B has poor SNR: cable modems 12dB, system channel 13.5dB: engineers will be looking into it. (Unqoute).

Re: Cambridge Area Outage?
My connection (750k, CB4 area) went awry on saturday, horrible on sunday. Yesterday (monday) was practically non-existent - I rang customer support, and got through to level 2 tech support after much waiting. He couldn't really help much but said he'd send an engineer on friday. My connection seems fine now (since about lunchtime today, Tuesday)- I'd convinced myself there was something wrong with my modem, maybe an intermittent fault. I guess it's nothing to do with my setup as others are having same problems and I'll cancel the engineer if the connection stays up for a day.
I'm surprised though that ntl tech support didn't know there was a fault in this area given we've all suffered the same problem!

I would, but it's technically not my area (not trying to wriggle out, but I don't know people on the ground round there). Can look later when the nipper is down to sleep.
