zz.exe
Hello,
I have noticed a file called zz.exe on my c/ drive.
was wondering whether it is a legitimate file.
Run a few searches on the internet and foud that
http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/z...zapper_1_2.asp
could anybody tell me more about zz.exe?
do I need to remove it as suggested in the PestPatrol page mentioned above?
thanks

Re: zz.exe
I don't think there is any legitimate reason why any program would want to install itself to the root of the c:\ drive.
I would suggest renaming it to something other than .exe (.filerenametoexe) if you are worried about breaking something.

If its listed in the Add/Remove Programs, then try uninstalling from there, or it could be spyware. So run Ad Aware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de and also run Spybot S&D from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Then once all the spyware has been removed download Spywareblaster from here http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Re: zz.exe
Find the file in explorer, right click and look at the properties
This should give you some idea of what it is?
Which OS you using?

Re: zz.exe
I am on Windows ME.
I have looked at the properties. It does not say much.

Re: zz.exe

I have run the Ad-aware SE thingy, it came back with cookies and stuff, but not the zz.exe
I am puzzled.

Re: zz.exe
Could be this or this or lots of other things! Virus scan it see if that brings up anything. Is it a Dell machine by any chance?

Re: zz.exe
Virus scan comes out clean.
YES IT IS A DELL. Why? Is that a legitimate file on a Dell computer?

Re: zz.exe
OK no worries then - thanks to all of you who contributed.
I am much happier now, and on the way I pickep up quite useful tools against spyware.
I have seen an advert for the Firefox internet browser in one of the signatures. Is it any good?
thanks

Re: zz.exe
Very good - quicker and safer than IE and lets you do tabbed browsing (amongst other things). I use it on all three of my systems.
But don't just take our word for it - go to www.mozilla.org and download Firefox 1.0PR !
