Certain website not accessible via NTL 600K - but works via BT!
A certain website (irrelevant which one) cannot be accessed via NTL broadband by either myself or two other of my NTL broadband friends. It returns a "page not found" error after a lengthy wait. All other websites seem to work fine.
However, two of my friends on BT broadband can access the site without any problems!

Its irrelevent which one? If you said it, maybe us other NTL users could see if it works or if its a proxy/local fault.... :P

Same here (Shepshed). There seems to be some sort of routing problem out of the Leics area (which I can see via tracert). Most IP traffic gets stuck there, but the web caches seem to be able to bypass the blockage for most but not all http stuff. Ironincally I cannot get to NTL Business member services page, unless I log on via another ISP!

You should see a white screen, with the message:
"IF YOU CAN SEE THIS, THE SITE WORKS FINE"

Must be a local (Huddersfield) proxy problem then.
I need NTL to take this seriously as it is a website I am about to build for a client and will be costing me a lost of money.
Which is the best number to call?

Who is hosting this website?
You would need to ring ntl Tech Support on 0845 650 0121 (could be 0125)
ntl will accept no claims for loss of cash (nor should they), as you should not be running any form of business from a residential connection.

Don't tell ntl that - assuming that you have a residential account (as opposed to a ntl business account), you shouldn't be using your bb connection for work purposes, therefore, any claims of compensation ( ), should you lose money/business from your client will fall on deaf ears anyway.........

Re: Certain website not accessible via NTL 600K - but works via BT!
Hi
I have had the same issue for months! the hosting company say they cannot find an issue and NTL support have supposedly opened a ticket with the network team (2 weeks ago and still no contact from NTL).
what happens is Outlook Express which checks email at 10 min intervals reports an error despite my ntl and other email accounts working fine then a quick check and www.mds.cc shows server not found. (not much to see there but i use the email alot). I can go to other sites like google etc no problem.
tracert stops because of a firewall but as i pointed out the routing dies 1 hop before the firewall. I would expect NTL to have enough power to talk directly to the operater of the IP/router or whatever it is that dies (cable internet) to find out why packets fail to get thru at random.
Using my 0845 dial-up (ISDN non NTL) i get thru ok.
Kram
On NTL BB from Leeds via STB (Pace)

I phoned NTL and they suggested that I should try specifying a proxy server in the Internet Explorer config. They have supplied an address and port number and I shall try tonight and post the results.

I used to get this at times on Windows, when I formatted and re-installed Windows or the DNS gives me another IP then it used to work. Strange I think
