Re: Laptop or Desktop?

Desktop only - I would use a laptop if I had to, especially if required by work, but I really hate using a laptop's mouse & keyboard.

Simple answer - Both

More complicated answer :
I have a laptop that I use for work, as I am mobile in my role (running Linux).
A desktop at home for general use/Playing games (WinXP).
A laptop of my own, that is about to be rebuilt as a linux server
My wife has a laptop(WinXP), and uses the desktop as well.

Oh and an Axim Wireless for diary/notes/general PDA stuff

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

I've got both. Or rather 3 desktops and a laptop.

One desktop is my partners (keeps her away from mine! ). One desktop is the main beasty I use, and the other is an old P200 MMX which I use to play around with Linux, and run Win98 on for some old apps I have.

I use the laptop outside, and when I've been confined to the lounge away from my desktop PC

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

I've got a laptop and desktop. The desktop sits in the attic room, and is used for more serious/lengthy work. The laptop sits in the lounge (where I don't want a bulky desktop), and is used for quick email/browsing and streaming audio (it's hooked up to the stereo).

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

Desktop.

However if I was going to use a laptop, I certainly would have to use an external mouse at least - I really hate those trackerpad/joystick pointers found on laptops. Also I might also like to change to a full keyboard at the earliest opportunity too.

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

Desktop used for Video editing, games etc.

Laptop used for business stuff, accounting, customer quotes etc (mainly by MrsH). Wireless connection means she can get some work done while master H plays nicely with his toys.

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

3 desktops, 3 laptops and two PDA's all networked.
I mainly use 1 laptop, my girlfriend uses another, and then one desktop upstairs stores and streams MP3's to the wireless MP3 player!!

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

Yep, both here ...although the laptop is provided by my company. I'd never buy my own laptop, but it's nice having one just lying around the house

ps - I agree with 'ntl customer' about the necessity of having an external mouse, so I use a mini optical mouse by Fellowes.
