New Addy Virus Help

I created a new email address in the normal way on Wednesday. This address has not been used.

I logged on to the new account today, Friday and Outlook began receiving 165 messages.

These messages dated back to May, before the account was created and all had a virus.

My main addy which I've had for years gets little spam, so I don't understand why a fresh account is unusable before I even start.

Any ideas

Re: New Addy Virus Help

Could you be recieving the previous owner's mail that he/she left on the server?

Are there any non-spam e-mails? If it is true it would be pretty bad.

You don't say what the address is (don't worry, we won't spam you!) but if it's something simple like "john.smith@hotmail.com" or "fred11723@yahoo.com" then the chances are you're the victim of a "dictionary attack" where a spammer simply rings the changes on every possible permutation of an address to send their rubbish out.

The dates of the spams aren't necessarily the actually dates of posting as some spammers fake them (as well as the sending addresses etc)

Unfortunately there's very little you can do about this except to sign up to services like Spam Killer

Re: New Addy Virus Help

Rather than simple spam. So my spam filter is not much use.
These mails all have a virus.
Headers such as Your Password: Undelivered Mail and the like.
The addresses are 'personal' style including ntl,bt.
I suppose it could be a recyled address which would account for all the mail.
