Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
I was wndering if anyone could help me.
Until Yesterday all was fine. There have been no new hardware or software changes to my system and the CD Re-writer worked fine.
The drive is a CDRW Liteon Burnproof 16x10x40x
Anyway, here is thge problem.
Now whenever I insert a blank CD, it will not be recognised. I have tried another 4 CD's and then used a different make to make sure, and it still won't work.
So basically whenever I go into Nero, get the stuff I want to burn and hit the Burn button, it tells me to insert new media and cant see that its already there.
I've checked that the correct drive is selected and I have also re-installed Nero and tried it with another Burning package. Not working either way.
The funny thing is, it will read CD's that have stuff on them fine.
If anyone can help, I'd be much appeciated.
Thanks.

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
does the problem only occur with Nero? Have you tried another tool to try burning CDs to eliminate software problems? Have you tried re-installing the drive's driver?
Can't think of anything else for the moment, but will give it some thought.

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
Yes I have tried using other programs and they can not recognise the blank media either.
I cant re-install the drivers or upgrade the firmware as I have no CD and the liteon site for mine (LTR16101B) does not have the download working.

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
You could take the side of the case - make sure the cables to the drive are plugged in nice and firmly.

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
Shut down the computer and remove the power cable from the CDRW and reboot.
Then shut down again and reconnect the cable and reboot again.
If the CDRW still does not work properly it is most likely knackered.
I have had things like this happen to me before.
They only cost about £25 so it is not worth messing about with.

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
Hello H
I had this problem when I switched from W98 to XP, but I was able to download an update from www.nero.com and it was just fine after that.
Good luck, JB

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
Thanks for all the replies.
I will have a look into it all tommorow.
Whats strange is that it will write to a CD that has already had stuff on it, eg, a multi session disc, but not to a blank disc, so data is flowing through it.
Thanks again.

Re: Problem with Liteon CDRW drive
You haven't loaded anything with a "hide ATIP" / "hide recordable media" function, have you? CloneCD or Alcohol?
