Can NTL provide cable broadband without green boxes?
Ok... this is going to sound like a very odd post so bare with.
Can NTL actually provide Cable broadband if there are no green boxes in the area, but their checker says they are capable of providing cable in that area?
I do have some pics that might suggest there is cable in the area, but I'm still unsure.

Bare in mind I cant see any green boxes in the street, but there is some odd ducting visible, very close to the walls of the houses, but has no black boxes attached to it with no CATV labels etc. All the normal stuff I would have looked for.
(This is in Coventry btw)

Coventry is a cabled area, and although I don't know it street-by-street, that first picture certainly looks like a cable box. Also remember that ntl street furniture isn't always green, and is sometimes quite hidden. Only way to know for sure is to place an order and see!

Re: Can NTL provide cable broadband without green boxes?
Ok thanks for the re-assurance, I've not yet moved into this new area so cant actually place an order. I was just checking local facilities etc and usually I just keep my eye out for the typical 'street furniture' that suggest areas have cable and the alike, and wasnt able to find any - yet NTL say they can provide the area.
Thanks, I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Can NTL provide cable broadband without green boxes?
Don't rely on anything NTL tell you either if they say you can't get it. They insisted my entire street wasn't NTL cabled despite the fact most of the houses had their boxes with their name stamped on them (CableTel in those days), and the flat below me had it! They were downright rude on the phone, very much "tough you can't get it, goodbye!" kind of attitude, and I tried several times. They insisted it must be another cable company even when I said the boxes had their name on them
In the end it took a strong letter to change their minds. Though on install they did such a botch job I ended up with hassle for years after thanks to the muppet installer splitting the cables off the other flat (both phone and 'cable' cable).

certainally the second box looks like an old rediffusion cable set up, the first picture does look like something along the lines of ntl

Well this is what I had suspected, but my concern is that they would have no way to connect it to the street. Is it possible they use overheads for cable broadband? - I was told by an engineer who came to install at the current property I am in that this wasnt possible. (This property is connected via the analogue system - was all I was told.) I have a sneaky suspicion that this is the same in the new street. It would be nicer if NTL's postcode checker was updated - which it isnt as this property still qualifies for digital cable yet engineers arent able to install and I did inform NTL of the issue via phone.
