Re: A free Rover 25 with every mortgage!
Well, I drove a Rover, think it was one of the top end 620s about a year ago at work. We get quite a few cars given to us for testing purposes. I thought it drove well and outside it looked good, but the inside was terrible (This was a top of the range model). the switchgear was so dated and the same as that I'd seen in a Rover metro I'd driven as a student about 10 years before. It let the whole car down.
I'm also a bit disappointed that all their new City Rovers are manufactured in India and they shove a union jack on them. I watched it being reviewed on a car programme on ITV London a month or two ago and they slated it. the workmanship was reminiscent of lada/skoda under communism.
I think the biggest mistake Rover ever did was to pi$$ Honda off and jump into bed with BMW. Honda's k-series engine saved Rover and then they turned round and went in with BMW, who as far as I can see were only after two things from them, info about hondas engines and the Mini trademark.

Re: A free Rover 25 with every mortgage!
I can vouch from experience that the rover 25 (aka 200) is ok.
if it wasnt for the purchasing of a new car recently and my mortgage having 2 years left on the redemption penalty, I'd have considered this 'free car' mortgage.

LOL - I think there may be a few cheap Rover 25's on the market soon.

pretty much the same for me, although we have slightly longer for the mortgage to run. We just got rid of our Rover 25 - and bought a Honda.
Tbh we would have had a Rover again, possibly the MG ZR version (my sister in law is getting the 160 hp 1.8 ), but the dealership has moved out of town.

Re: A free Rover 25 with every mortgage!
First question to ask when someone offers you a "free" deal like this, is "how much is it going to cost me"?
Frankly this is the equivalent of a "cash back" mortgage, except you're not getting cash, you're getting a car which is effectively restricting your "cash back" to only one purchase.
And, as with cash back mortgages, you're going to be *paying* for the value of the car, but not over the usual sort of eg five year finance plan that you'd normally use to buy the car, but over the full *twenty five years* of the mortgage, meaning you're going to be paying *much* more in interest charges!!
Not such a good deal after all...

Re: A free Rover 25 with every mortgage!
I've driven a Rover 25.It was rather a nice little car. However It was a hire car and I had to give back when I got my N reg Nissan Micra which is a nice car but I'd rather have the Rover.
Why the chuffing heck weren't such offers around when I took out a mortgage 30 year ago?I feel rather put upon!!!
Incog.

Especially as its only a Rover, I mean come on, at least give away a car which comes with working indicators!
Worst car I've ever driven

Re: A free Rover 25 with every mortgage!
Been driving a Rover 620si for 3 years now (and I know how to indicate) and have nothing but praise for it! Of course apart from the teethmarks that Neil created in my dashboard, something to do with him not thinking I'm a safe driver.......

you're wrong there - the redemption penalty tie in on the mortgage is only for the first 5 years not 25. so you're only 'paying' for it over the first five years by paying a fairly uncompetitive interest rate and being tied to them.

Only *if* you redeem the mortgage after five years. And even if you shift providers you're still going to be stuck with the same amount, just (hopefully) a lower interest rate, being paid back over 25 years.
