Can NTL offer this?

As some of you may know, I'm now free of NTL products entirely. Everything is fine except I have quite a severe crossed line, to the point that I can have a conversation with the other party. Also I have on my line what BT refer to as a 'ring trip'which means the phone will ring once then disconnect itself.

I phoned BT to report the faults and they're sending someone out on thursday.

All this is fine, and I'm sure NTL would be able to keep up at this point.

But the faults operator asked me, because the 'ring trip' affects my incoming calls, if I would like to have all the incoming calls for my landline diverted to my mobile instead.

What a great idea. I accepted, seeing as there will be no charge to me for doing so.

My question is, can/do NTL offer this service? To have all my landline calls rerouted to my mobile is great but I've never heard of them doing it or offering to.

Re: Can NTL offer this?

Just a word of warning, I used to have all my calls diverted from my home phone (BT) to my mobile and I had to foot the bill for the cost of the calls to it, someone is going to have to pay for the calls to your mobile, it won't be BT and I doubt they'll be able to palm it off on to the caller as there will probably be legalities involved with them charging people mobile rates on residential numbers.

I'm sure they could do it, but whether they would do it is a whole different question!

Re: Can NTL offer this?

ntl also offer call diversion service for i think a £1 a month and the cost for diverting from your landline to the selected mobile a 5p set up fee + what ever mobile rate applies. Bt will charge you for diverting when you have a fault but as soon as you get you bill call them & they will credit any charges to your account

I'm on hold to BT right now to find out if I'll be charged the cost of the diverted calls......

The 'diversion to your mobile' is service that BT offer in the event of a phone line fault now Bifta-yes, if you choose to have those calls diverted, you pay for them, but if there is a fault then BT divert them for free.

Something ntl could/would never offer IMHO.

[Edit]-Found the link!

Quote:
Keeping You Connected

As soon as you report a fault, we will immediately divert* all your incoming calls to an alternative fixed or mobile number, free of charge. We will also pay for the cost normally incurred for diverting incoming calls. You can retain the diversion service until we install or repair your service.

If we fail to keep to our promised times for repairing your service, we will automatically credit a rental rebate to your bill. As well as this, if your incoming calls are diverted to a mobile, we will automatically credit a call allowance to your bill, to contribute towards the cost of calls you make from your mobile. The rental rebate and call allowance is calculated on a daily basis.

* The diversion facility is not available to BT Pay&Call, In Contact Plus and Light User Scheme customers.
Now that's a guarantee.....

http://www.bt.com/customerservices/c...=our_guarantee

Something that ntl could only ever dream of offering.

Re: Can NTL offer this?

I've just come off the phone to BT and they've confirmed that I will not be charged anything extra for call which are diverted to my mobile. Also if someone calls me, they will be charged as if they are calling my landline.

So kudos to BT! Still don't know if NTL offer this service....

I was on the phone while you posted that!

OK, can any NTL employees confirm that NTL can/cannot offer this?

Because I just rang them & asked them!

[Edit]I already knew they didn't offer it from my days on .com, & also asking about it prior as a customer.

There is no way, that ntl, with their record for unreliability could ever offer a compensation/guarantee package anything like that of BT's.

BT ut their money where their mouth is & offer their guarantees in writing.

What do ntl say?-"it's discretionary".

Thats pretty cool, I'd never swap to another telco from BT, they've been great. In the event of a fault you're lucky to even get through to NTL let alone them offer something like this.

So you're saying that if you have a BT line, you could redirect this to a mobile (or another number) and you or the caller are not charged anything! (mmm - I'd reconfirm this with BT because this doesn't make business sense to me!)

Yes-see my post #6 that gives you the relevant info/link to the BT website.
