LED TVs
Has anyone seen an LCD TV in the flesh as it were, is the picture any better than the LCD Plasma variety ?

we have the samsung 7000 series 40" at work. looks great on blu ray and about the same as any decent LCD on dvd and SD tv.

personally still prefer Panasonic plasma to everything LCD

you wont find a large OLED tv which is what you want eventually all these so called LED tvs just have LED backlights and LCD screens

OLED TV's are only availabe in 19" I believe from Sony.

Theres a Few Backlit LED TV's like Zing said. But OLED TV's wont be around for a couple of years or so in the same size as we have today.

IIRC, the advantage of an LED backlight (as opposed to fluorescent tube) is that the TV can turn the brightness up and down and thus increase the 'contrast'.

I was looking at getting the 40" Samsung series 8 LED but have been put off with the fact that its just a backlit tv as opposed to true LED (as the arguments above have pointed out). So that leaves me with getting a 8 series LCD (@£850) but I am also contemplating a Panasonic Viera 600mz plasma. Can anyone guide me as to which TV I should go for, given a budget of 850ish. Everyone I've spoken to has told me to steer away from plasmas, but surely a 600mz set would give me a better picture than the Samsung LCD? Would the LED stll not give a better picture given its much higher contrast ratio?

I would have to point you to the Sony Bravia in your price range and you can find old tv scrapage schemes that give you a wedge back. With such a sheme I saw a 40" bravia @ less than £600. Every Bravia I have seen has been spot on
