Removing a 2nd hard disk

To remove 2nd hard disk from a PC do I just physically take it out and the BIOS will detect its gone and Windows will remove drive letters? Or do I need to use a boot disk and FDISK to remove the drive letters or doesn't FDISK do that?

If you don't boot from the second hard disk and none of your system files (I.e the swap file or other parts of the OS) are on that disk then generally you can safely remove that disk without doind anything else (on windows PCs)

windows will remove the drive letters automatically when you remove the hd from the pc, or dissable it in the bios.

You can just remove it as long as its not the disk you run windows from and you haven't done anything silly like install all your program files on there or changed the default location of your swap/page file.

Shutdown your PC physically remove the disk (make sure you get the right one) and then reboot, if you get any problems, stick it back in then come here again for more help

BTW, if you have removed it & you later on decide to put it back again, guess what... Windows will remember it all...

Onno account do you need to be running Fdisk.
