No connection except to Hell

After some sort of power problem overnight last Sat, I have had no connection on my 600k line. Have got used to resetting for my Linksys wireless router, but get nothing even though trying exclusively with a direct connection.
By getting TS to clear everything down we can sometimes get to the NTL registration page, which accepts the registration, but then on restarting, no connection.
This has gone on all week, and have had 2 replacement set top boxes fitted, always with the engineer buggering off saying wait half hour, etc., at which time same again.

Any body got any bright ideas how I can tell ntl to do their job, cos they obviously don't know.....

After posting yesterday I got hold of a half decent techie who agreed it couldn't be the STB and must be a DHCP server problem. He dug around and discovered I am by no means the first in the BN region, problem seems confined to 600k connection thru STBs. God knows why nobody else could come up with this info before. As a temporary fix, he upgraded me to 1MB service, but we then found a local area fault got us no further. Today, this area fault must have been fixed, and hey presto! Works great.

Now have to decide whether/when to downgrade again, and the inevitable battle with accounts to make sure I don't get stitched up to paying more for their incompetence, not to mention 6 days offline.

Thnks for trying to help th'engineer, much appreciated.

Re: No connection except to Hell

everyone has problems...its just every little problem has such a slight difference from the next that engineers/phone assistance cannot help you...but thats not ur fault...its theres, they should know every aspect of troubleshooting

luckily for me...the geezer that i got actually helped me change some setting and delete a few useless but harmful junk from my computer to let the broadband flow easily.
