NTL giving BT prices.

I had to phone Customer Services today (on 150) and listening to the recorded message it said about the new local rate number that started recently. It then went on to mention that, "calls are charged at 10p/min from a BT land line, other operators may vary."
Am I the only person that finds it ironic that calling CS from a NTL line you are told how much it would cost from a competitors line and not from NTL's.

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

Nah, it's because when there phone service goes down the chances are you'll be calling from a BT landline

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

Yep, I thought the same when I heard it. Drucchi makes a valid point, but I was phoning about a broadband fault.

Interesting, in about 20 months with ntl I have never had a phone fault (that's probably the kiss of death!!!) but two or three TV faults and many broadband faults

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

I'm guessing that the BT bit may be required by law.
But surely they should say calls from NTL are charged at X amount and from BT are X amount. Or is it that NTL charge more for the same call ???

I assume the number in question is 0845 454 0000 in which case it's daytime 4.45, evenings 1.75, weekends 1.45 pence/minute.

Interestingly, http://www.ntl.com/locales/gb/en/contact/index.html mentions an International number of +44(0)1256 75 1045 which I assume is for people phoning from overseas, although it might be for sales enquiries rather than CS - it's not very clear which, nor is it apparent (to me at least) why someone will phone ntl UK from another country.

Does 01256 751045 work from an ntl line within the UK I wonder? If it does, it's at 3-2-1 rates, or inclusive on Talk Unlimited plans.

Have a look at http://www.saynoto0870.com/ it may shed some light on which numbers you can use.

Had that tonight when I called NTL tech support in India. So its cheaper to use a BT line to call than our cable line going from what it says.

Supposed to be 6p connection then 5p a min for 0845 and the 0870 is 6p connection then 10p a min. Soon adds up when they waste loads of time waffling on about disconnecting the modem etc. Everyone has already done that before they waste money calling.

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

I think the 150 is staying live, people have confused this with the 0800 number, the 0800 number is used when calling from other operators and so would cost them more then the 150 from their own lines.

I also get the same message and agree its very stupid considering BT is their main rival.

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

I just find it highly amusing for NTL to tell us how much it costs on their competitor, yet dont mention how much it costs on an NTL line.. whats the world coming to

oh and any 15* number hasnt worked on my line for over a year now.. so thats that out the window too..

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

Yes I thought the BT charge was ironic too when I phoned on the weekend - it was also a little strange that they will only contact me on my mobile.
They said they need to call out to repair my broadband modem as it often takes about 4 minutes to boot up (after switching on at the mains it can be four minutes before there is any net access).
The engineer was due to call today (07/06/06) between 8:00 and 1:00. I took the whole day off work (fortunately) and guess who phoned this morning at 8:30. Well - it cannot be helped if two engineers are off sick and, as the engineer has now been booked to call this afternoon instead, all will be well later. Watch this space.
I don't know if there is a thread where customers comment re. NTL engineer visits (I don't even know how to post a new thread - sorry).

Re: NTL giving BT prices.

Don't forget not everyone that has NTL has a phoneline with them as well. They might just have broadband, in which case you will probably have a BT line.

Its because the 150 number and 0800 end up in the same place so the recorded message will be the same.
