Changing From Ntl

Ive had enough of this ntl bullcrud! Been looking at bulldog broadband and they have up to 16mb for £24.99, unlimited too.

Sod ntl. Has anyone know if there any good? Obviously were all ntl here, i dont see the point in paying 35 quid a month for crappy speeds.

I can hardly see the point hanging around for this 100meg.

If anyone can give me any pointers that would be cool. Id like to get it sorted this week.

Cheers

P.S. Also how do i go about cancelling my ntl account? do i have to wait a month or what? ive had broadband for about 4 years.

Re: Changing From Ntl

you have to give 1 months notice to cancel your ntl account.

WRT bullldog... i used to work for them, and unless things have improved since last year, i wouldn't bother.... 6-10 week waits for installs that wouldn't work and would result in BT phone line stopping working completely... then an hour and a half to get through to a customer service centre who appeared to know nothing and wouldn't get it fixed. Lots of people getting poor speeds, and because of the quality of support, little being done about it.

If i were you i would investigate UKonline for an LLU product.

Re: Changing From Ntl

Right, cant get the fastest uk online speed, could only get about 5mb.

Also would need to get an active bt line.

Sucks.

Just been off teh phone with ntl technical support, told him about the slow speed. I cant get above about 80KB/s using teh web browser. although i am getting over 400KB/s off giganews not that i mentioned that, for fear of not getting a new modem.

He went through some tests, made me boot up in safe mode and try the speed test (homepage.ntlworld.com/testmyspeed used the 2mb test)

got about 25KB/s. He then took my ip details and changed server or summat and rebooted teh modem. Tried the test again and got 65KB/s.

He then said that he had done all the tests he could do and booked me an engineer for thursday! He told me that he will assess the situation and see if i need a new modem, i then sarcastically replied, "Yeah, a new modem would be nice!"

So hopefully when this dude turns up he can gimme a new 250 modem and i can put this nthell behind me!

I'll keep ya posted

P.S I had to use my mobile to ring technical support as i dont have a house phone, was on hold for ages and the testing process went on fo a while. To cut a long story short i ended up using about £13 talktime! better than the £50 for the modem i spose. Been putting off ringin for ages

The End

Wow, glad you got some service

Bulldog is great when it works, I get 860kb/sec on a good run from newsgroups (8mb service)

Re: Changing From Ntl

All services are good " when they work"
I have been with tiscali broadband and bt . Ive been with ntl
broadband for a year and i cant fault it , But then again i thought
tiscali was good when i first had it untill i kept getting dissconected and at times could not get on line.
I know a few people who have ntl broadband , not one of them faults it.

Re: Changing From Ntl

used to have NTL, but speed issues and bad customer services decided things, so changed to ADSL, decided to go for UKOnlines 22meg LLU service, as I live close to the exchange (335metres straight line). Word of warning though for anyone else deciding to use them, ditch the supplied Netgear, buy a Billion router, I use the BiPAC 7402VGP, it's ADSL2+ right out of the box, works like a dream too, never once disconnected or gives any issues.
Bought it from www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk

Re: Changing From Ntl

I don't think they have a news server, do they?
I'm with them, but I use a paid for newsgroup

---------- Post added at 21:22 ---------- Previous post was at 21:18 ----------

Confirmation from their FAQ

Is usenet/newsgroup access provided?

No. We don't currently offer a news server. Customers requiring newsgroup access can refer to a web-based service such as http://groups.google.com.

You supposedly have to pay one month, even if you don't use it in that time... I however have now been waiting 9 months for them to do something about disconnecting and each time I phone they tell me lies. I have made a written complaint and if that doesn't sort it, I will also be switching sides, even BT has to be better than this.

I also have a mate at PC Servicecall who has to deal with NTL on a business basis, and he reckons the service is even worse for business, saying they are "children" to deal with.

Re: Changing From Ntl

If you live close to a bulldog exchange, it's possible to get more than 16mb, the actuall limit is 24mb, but they advertise it as 16, because not many can get that speed.

I'm due to be upgraded on the 4th of June to the new speeds, so i'll let you guys know.
