10 meg not 10 meg

I hardly get 10meg dl speed which I paid for getting really fed up with it and would like other users to comment on it.
Speeds I get are between 500kbs and 10meg.
I'm paying for a 10meg at £34pm and you don't get it.Was with be unlimited they say you can get up to 24meg once they retrain your line and so on.I was getting 18meg dl speed and that what I got all the time.

Need some help here, need to complain but want a ntl e-mail address so it's easyer to keep a copy.Could some one provide one please.Does someone know who you complain to is it off com.Maybe if enough of us complain they may do something about it.

I've read around and I don't see this issue for there 1meg and 2meg services.

Re: 10 meg not 10 meg

It is up to 10MB and I was paying £37.99 for an NTL 3MB service, which was upgraded to 10MB. I'm not saying you can't complain if you're getting poor service but you have to remember the "upto" in the small print.

Re: 10 meg not 10 meg

Be looks to be the best deal at the moment, *if* you are close enough to your exchange to get the high speeds (you sound like you are, why did you leave them and join NTL for a slower speed and caps ?)

My admittedly limited tests with Be customers and my web sites show full speeds all times of the day - about 700k from the UK to the USA.

NTL can manage about 500k off peak and about 20-50k peak.
Be network is better, but probably less busy at the moment.

If I multithread I can squeeze a little more but makes little difference over peak time for me the bandwidth just isnt there.

Really to save money as went for all three phone broadband and internet.Dam those electric bills in uk.Don't really matter what time of day it is really still don't get 10meg.It's like waves up and down with spikes one second you get 8meg then it go down to 5meg.Then maybe it pecks at 10meg then down to 5meg.Like that all the time.Never had a connection like it.Had broadband for years had 1meg and got 1meg all the time,Had 2meg got 2meg connection speed all the time.Had 18meg got 18meg all time.I think that they too many of us on too few connections not enough bandwith.

Re: 10 meg not 10 meg

here is a screenshot of the end of download approx 5.14-5.16am this morning. The triangle spikes are evident on it and even at 5am I cannot get max throughput from .us.

us speedtest 5am

Oversold is my diagnosis as well, I think the problems stem at some ubr's and then their is a second problem with oversold external transit (peering), their may also be problems on their internal network as people are been staticly routed around it.

I get bad speeds to the USA as you know as well, but I can get about 500k at off peak times, I think as you probably also know that you have local problems as well.

Currently the local network here seems ok.

Re: 10 meg not 10 meg

I went back to 2mb service - always seem to get over 1.9mb down and the connection is far more stable than the 10mb. I regularly dropped down as low as 2mb on the 10mb service, so, out the window it went, and I saved myself £10 amonth.

If and when the 10mb service gets anywhere near the stability of 2mb, then and only then, will I consider giving NTL any more of my dosh.

Re: 10 meg not 10 meg

I get full download speed 99% of the time if it does struggle i change port seems to work.
Depends if your using newsgroups or bitorrent(worst way)
But if i was you and i would downgrade to 2meg as it's not worth paying the extra if you get 5 meg most of the time.
Hopefully ntl will just offer a 2meg unlimited say with 512kb upload and 10 meg 300 gb download limit with 1mb upload.
At the moment i pay for the 10mb but i am thinking of dropping to 2mb as the upload is more important to me than download and 512kb is not really that good when paying £35 a month.

Re: 10 meg not 10 meg

i had 10 meg up until last week
i dowgraded as i was only getting just under 2.5
i also like how to upgrade you can do it online but to downgrade you have to phone up and get passed from department to department,
since i only have a mobile it cost me a fair bit as i ended up on the phone for about 20 minutes
