Connection keeps dropping

Hey i'm new here and just wanted abit of advice before i phone up ntl with my problem

i recently changed my connection from usb to ethernet and now my connection keeps dropping. I have the silver modem, not sure what model it is, and my connection keeps dropping out and the modem rebooting ie lights flash across and restarts. sometimes it just stops all together and i got to reboot my pc to get it working again

was wondering if my modem needed upgrading as i've read other topics and this seems to be the case. whenever i try to download at high speeds it disconnects every 30 seconds it seems and cant seem to be able to handle the high speeds.

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

Re: Connection keeps dropping

On the bottom of the modem, what does it say?

NTL:Home 120 for example?

that should be ok, it looks like it is the modem that can't hack it. Using USB won't have gone as fast as the ethernet card, so presumably didn't stress the modem as much.

alternatives

- try to get NTL to replace your ntl100 modem for an ntl250

- set your ethernet card to 10Mb/half duplex & suffer a slower connection

- go back to usb

- drop down to 2meg connection & save lots of grief & a tenner a month

I have the NTL:Home 120 modem and it does the same thing every now and again, in fact I was due an engineer to come today but they could not be @rsed to turn up.

Get on to tech support and tell them what has been going on, just don't book a day off work to meet the engineer or it could well be a wasted day, like today for me.

But like the murpheys, I'm not bitter...

no problem - obviously the modem swap is the best option, but it has been known for them to want to charge you £50 for the priviledge
