Unhappy Bad upstream speeds ?

Hi All ,

I'm on the 1MB service and while my download speeds are ok, my uploads speeds are 66kbps(8.3kb) from the adslbroadband speed test. Shouldn't I be getting 265kbps on the upstream . It's been like this since it was installed 8 days ago

Should I contact ntl support or could someone suggest something to do before I contact them

Ta muchly

Re: Bad upstream speeds ?

1MBit NTL has an upload speed of 100kbps (not taking into account Overheads, etc.) so although yours is below average, its about right.

Lightbulb Re: Bad upstream speeds ?

Thanks Zeph for your prompt reply and help

I have used this site:

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

and tweaked my settings. Getting better upstream now...but still not impressed with the the upload speeds. I do use P2P and this will really effect my share ratios I'll have to see how this goes, I'm still on the money back trial period. Otherwise, the service is excellent

Do you think if I tell customer services that I'm cancelling and going to , they will give me an upgrade to 2Mb

Could give it go lol nothing to lose and regarding P2P, I used to use P2P but then found that newsgroups were so much better! Might be worth checking out newsgroups (Ignore if you already have done so and you didnt like it)

Thanks Sahil for the info ,

Sort of aware of newsgroups. But not used them as an alternative to P2P. But will look more into it Do you use a dedicted news server, like Giganews/Easynews or ntl's news servers, would they be fast enough

Which are the best newsgroups to look into for filums pm me if you want

Ta again muchly

I don't think CS will upgrade you free of charge if you're still in the money back time, but you never know..

They usually don't offer deals to people unless they are out of or near out of contract.

Sorry m8, just got back. Regarding newsgroups, look at http://www.slyck.com/ng.php
You will need a news reader such as newsbin. I used to use ntls servers, they werent half bad but there wasnt much variety available, currently using easynews - $9.99 for 20 gigs - loads of variety.

I suggest you check out ntls first - its free, get used to the way stuff works so your comfortable using newsgroups and if you feel the need sign up to a dedicated provider.

HTH

P.S. all servers will tend to max out you connection.
