VPN solutions

Anyone using a VPN solution while connected over the ntl network.

I have a work one and I have also just found a free service which is under beta testing SecureIX.

Has anyone used it? Tested it (its in beta stage)?

Re: VPN solutions

I've been using VPN to work for over two years. Used both the Nortel VPN client and the standard MS VPN client. Both work fine.

What's your objective for looking at SecureIX? It may hide your traffic from NTL, but once it gets to their network it is decrypted. I would imagine it adds significant lag to your internet usage, esp traffic to UK based servers (the tunnel goes across the pond and then back again!).

Re: VPN solutions

I have no traffic to hide from NTL, i have only started looking for a secure solution since I have been providing some server maintenance

Re: VPN solutions

OK, if those servers are all at work, your work VPN should be sufficient. It will encrypt the traffic as far as the work firewall and then allow you to use Remote Desktop, Xwindows, etc within the work network for server admin.

If you want even more security, you could get an SSH server (such as OpenSSH) on the servers and use an SSH tunnel inside the VPN tunnel - probably a bit OTT!
