repairing avi files
i got some avi files last night (my divx problem is solved! yeah thanks guys) and for some reason it said they were completely downloaded but i found them in my partials folder. and they have .avi.partial at the end. is there anyway of making them normal? and them not being partials so i can play them?

A quick google brings up quite a lot of answers / solutions, the easiest being, make sure you d/l the full file the next solution to playing them is to make a copy of the partial .avi and play it in VLC player haven't tried myself but supposed to work.

Re: repairing avi files
what p2p program are you using - it sounds like an edonkey derivative if you have partial files. This program should move the full avi into a designated folder once it has finished downloading it and then delete any .partial files. So, I would conclude that you haven't actually finished the download and that your P2P client was fibbing (ie crashed) or the person you were leeching from was only sharing a partial file in the first place.
It is unlikely it is a virus. The problem with virus killers is they often work on an heurustic (spelling?) basis where they look for patterns inside a file that are the same as a virus. This can lead to what are known as false positives, especially with partial downloads that may have a few bytes in them that, coincidentally, are the same as a virus pattern. Once the full file is downloaded these bytes may have been changed completely or added to, making it different from the virus pattern so a normal scan would not show it as a virus then, even though it did 30 minutes before.

Re: repairing avi files
Apologies nicke261192!
The link i posted was a trojan and i should have checked it before i sent it Strange because i have used that same download location before!
However, avipreview does work with morpheus files and is (trojan free) here http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avipreview_aj.html
I have triple checked the file this time and all is ok

Re: repairing avi files
right, the avi viewer had a trojan in it. I read it as the .partial file was coming up as a virus. My bad.
Avipreview is a good one. Very useful from my old kazaa days for finding out if something was real or just another copy of Horny Housewives from Prague #14. Although, I have to say, #14 answered all the questions left open at the end of Horny Housewives from Prague #13.

Really? I thought Helga was a little lacking. I'd also dispute the fact she was a real housewife
