NTL blocked emails from France?
Hi
Has anybody else had this problem? I have had on two seperate occasions had mails that failed to reach me from family in France to my NTL address. On further investigations I have found that some of my friends have had the same problem as me here in England. At the moment my family in France have to contact me thorugh my hotmail address. Any help advice really welcome!

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
Hi radiospy.
Unfortunately I can't help you with this issue, I'm sure someone will be along soon who might be able to though.
For your future information, there is no need to post topics twice here. Most people use the New Posts button which will show them all new posts and therefore yours will be seen regardless of which area you put it in.
This area of the forum is the correct one for your question, I would imagine the other post will be removed.
Hope you get things sorted soon.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
I don't rec email from France but...
I've had problems (on and off) rec email from hotmail and AOL accounts...... I had asumed it was NTL's spam filters being 'fine tuned' and sometimes blocking/deleting them...
Maybe you should contact NTL faults and ask them....

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
I have seen a few accounts of problems receiving from wanadoo.fr
As I mentioned in another thread, their servers are blocked by SORBS. Don't know if this really is the reason, but to try and find out what we really need are error messages or copies of bounced emails.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
Hi,
can anyone throw light on this? Is it NTL or Wanadoo, that gets it in the neck?
I can confirm that two independent e-mail address's on NTL (sorry do not know at this moment of writing what the server is for the 'other' address) can not receive e-mails from France. I can receive them through my workplace e-mail so it is obviously a problem between NTL and Wanadoo. BUT who?
I have had my contact in France @wanadoo.fr send 4 e-mails. 3 to NTL accounts and 1 to work. As stated above - work got through.
Should we complain to NTL as they have been ok until recently?
Regards,

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
Are the emails bouncing back or just vanishing?
As stated again, the wanadoo.fr mailservers are listed on SORBS and wanadoo needs to get this resolved

ntl do not employ spam filtering at the moment, they use two RBL's, Spamhaus and SORBS.
If a mail server ends up on any of these two list's ntl mail servers will block connections from thoe IP addresses. As stated wannadoo has been blocked in SORBS, they need to sort out some spammers or vulnerable zombies on their network.

Re: Ntlworld & Hotmail Email problems ?
I have also been having problems with emails from Hotmail users not arriving in my Ntlworld inbox. In order to try and see where the problem is (e.g. Hotmail or Ntlworld), I set up my own Hotmail email account and ran some tests. I sent six test emails from Hotmail to my Ntlworld email account and also six to another account I have on Hemscott. All 6 emails from Hotmail arrived in my Hemscott account immediately, but only 1 made it to Ntlworld.
After a day or so, I received a message from the Postmaster at Hotmail for the 5 failed emails to Ntlworld with subject 'Delivery Status Notification (Failure)' and the following message ... "This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server.".
There does appear to be some sort of problem between Hotmail servers and the Ntlworld email servers. It only appears to affect emails from Hotmail because none of my other (non-Hotmail) friends have reported any problems.
I would be interested to hear if any other Ntlworld email users are having problems receiving emails from Hotmail ?

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
As a Wanadoo.fr subscriber I can tell you that there seem to be two separate problems:
1. Messages from a Wanadoo.fr address are blocked by SORBs if sent to at least six different ISPs, not so far including ntlworld in my experience. Sorbs tells me that this is due to Wanadoo.fr allowing spammers to use Wanadoo addresses for sending out their daily effusions, and that until Wanadoo.fr gets its house in order I can whistle for the chance to correspond with my friends at these six (and more every week) ISPs. I have written to service.clients@wanadoo.fr about 15 times about this, and have never received a sniff of a reply.
As it is illegal to send spam in France, maybe they are worried about being prosecuted for allowing spammers to use their services . . . . ?
2. Messages sent from my wanadoo.fr address to ntlworld addresses (and four other known ISPs so far) are simply bounced with an "End of Data" error message, and a suggestion that I write to Postmaster@wanadoo.fr about this for an explanation. Which I have done at least a dozen times with no reply from Wanadoo.fr whatsoever.
It appears to me that Wanadoo.fr don't care a tuppeny whatsit for their customers, and as soon as I can work out some way of leaving them to their own devices (?) I shall do so.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
Does anyone know a way to fix this or any news as to a remedy as this is starting to really annoy me.
I was waiting for mail from family who have email accounts with wanadoo.fr in France. Now I know this mail got to my hotmail address but not at all to any of my ntlworld addresses.
This is very fustrating !!!

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
Sorry you're having the same problem. I have recently tried sending test e-mails from my Wanadoo.fr address to ten friends with ntlworld.com addresses. Results: Not a single one got through. My 18th & 19th messages to service.client@wanadoo.fr remain unanswered, as do the previous 17. Somebody, somehow, has got to kick these lazy so & so's into action, but I don't know how. Ntlworld seem equally uninterested (they have not replied to any of 19 messages about this).
So I suggest to your correspondents that they change ISP. If enough people leave Wanadoo.fr, saying why they are doing so, perhaps they might wake up.
Or could we get one of the national Newspapers to run a story on this?
Bon Courage

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
There are only really two ways for the problem to be solved
1) ntl stop using SORBS (unlikely)
2) wanadoo get themselves unlisted from SORBS (seemingly equally unlikely thus far)
The easiest solution is to tell your French friends to sign up with gmail.

Re: NTL blocked emails from France?
As I mentioned earlier, the problem is the End of Data erroir message from ntlworld, which has nothing to do with SORBS. Ntlworld have their own little fine-tuned tricks for detecting that anything, but anything from wanadoo.fr simply MUST be spam and so bounced.
