Slow speeds in Burnley on 2mb?

Hi, Im on 2mb ntl broadband via ethernet and a Samsung STB. I've done the usuall rounds of virus check/port check ect, and i've been having poor speeds over the last 3 days or so. Even downloading is slow from game demo sites and most sites are very slow to load. I looked at a thread on here a few moments ago and its taking 12 seconds to load when its bad! I'm wondering if anybody around or in Burnley is having the same slow speeds. If it carries on looks like a call to CS..
Here are a few traceroutes:

Re: Slow speeds in Burnley on 2mb?

Yep sure have, just seems the same, even downloading from EA games ftp, im only getting around 50k, other sites are at the most 120k, I should be getting 245-250kps.. like it has been since the 2mb upgrade rolled out.

Here is a test on the Swansea 5

Sat, 12 Nov 2005 22:32:17 UTC
1st 128K took 2810 ms = 46645 Bytes/sec = approx 388 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1640 ms = 79922 Bytes/sec = approx 665 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1870 ms = 70092 Bytes/sec = approx 583 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1210 ms = 108324 Bytes/sec = approx 901 kbits/sec

If it dosent improve i'll give CS a call tomorrow

Also my Uncle is on NTL 2mb down there and he is reprting slow speeds. He rung me and told me about it asking for my advice. I told him to call CS. Seems like a bit of a problem down there.

Wouldn't know the band but your speed definately doesn't look good. I take it you have obviously checked for spyware etc.

Sorry for double post, try configuring your network card to half duplex instead of auto.(if yours is on auto).

Re: Slow speeds in Burnley on 2mb?

Hi again, well this morning seems to be an improvement!, all seems back to normal for the moment.. Maybe it goes slow when the network gets buisy?.. Im clean of spyware ect and it was on a go slow it in both win98 (which I havent had to reinstall for over 2yrs! maybe the record!??) and win2k, but thanks for the replies i'll keep my eye on it just incase it was temporary before I call CS.

Re: Slow speeds in Burnley on 2mb?

speed problems could of course be somebody using bit torrent or some such near you and maxing out their upload 24/7 thus creating a bit of a blockage. I am in Newcastle under Lyme on 2mb and I have noticed my surfing speed slowing down and speeding up erratically over the last couple of weeks especially at prime time (6 - 10pm). Clean system - no problems with download speeds from files or usenet so nothing to do but hope that the UBR (or whatever it's called) gets improved around here to handle it.Of course, it could be my browser blocking ads and crap left right and centre (using Deepnet Explorer - brilliant pop up and ad blocker), but I have a feeling it is someone close by who doesn't know how to use Bit torrent properly and wondering why they are only get 4k a second download and sharing to everyone else at 20+ (set upload to 10k dimwits - you'll get the speed. Better than that - stop using P2P crap!)I could be completely wrong of course and NTL are just ****e and ADSL really is the way to go.
