Samsung Question .....

Hello,

I have recently been installed with a pair of Pace STB's. We have an additional tv that is connected to one of the STB's via the RF socket. I have tuned the additional tv into cable with no problem. The engineer told me that if I had a Samsung box that I would be able to tune the additional tv into BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4 plus I would have a fifth channel for cable.

Can anybody confirm this please ?

Cheers.

Re: Samsung Question .....

I doubt that is totally accurate.

The only way you get the terrestrial channels is by havving passthrough capability. That is a hangover from the analogue cable systems. By default the Samsung STBs don't have that (at least mine doesn't).

You can of course plug in your terrestrial aerial to a splitter / combiner on the outlet RF from any STB. That will give you terrestrial TV channels as well as the Cable STB output via the co-axial lead. Quality though may not be very high.

My Samsung has a small square box fitted at the rear of the STB to provide pass through.

On my previous Pace STB, the engineer did what Rob C suggested, and fitted a splitter to the cable going in to the back of the STB with a RF plug fitted to the spare outlet.

Ive always had BBC1 & 2, ITV C4 & C5 available through analouge.

There's no advantage to getting a Samsung to do this. You'd still need an external bypass fitting to the box, and they are available for Pace boxes too.

Give ntl a call and you might get lucky. The bypass is free but you could have to pay a callout charge.

Splitters on the cable are a bad idea. Don't go there.
