Smart Media Cards
Hi all
I would like to upgrade my F601 camera card from 125 mb to 512 mb. But I am having real problems finding any thing larger than a 128 card. Are larger cards made than 128 (or has the name changed !!!)
Many thanks for your time.
Mike

Re: Smart Media Cards
For anything like this, I always look at www.crucial.com/uk to see what is available.

Re: Smart Media Cards
How old is your camera, and who was it made by. There may well be a physical limit anyway on the size of media card it can actually use. Newer cards may have greater capacity, but if the camera wasn't programmed to use that capacity it would be a waste of time.

Re: Smart Media Cards
This link describes the different types of cards in use, doesn't show maximum capacities though http://www.pchardware.co.uk/flashmemory.php
edit: Ah dilli's link above is much more useful

Re: Smart Media Cards
Just have another 128mb card handy and swap when one if full (like changing a roll of film only much easier)

Re: Smart Media Cards
Checked every web site, and there is nothing bigger than smartmedia 128.
Looks like the newer Fuji cameras are changing to the XD card, sizes up to 1gig.
Is your camera still under warranty?
If so, might be worth chatting to manager of store where you bought it, see if they are keen to keep your custome, and goodwill, would they exchange it for the later version?
I've been helped by shops in Chester doing this for me, the shops know the age of what they are selling, so a bit of leeway would be nice.

Re: Smart Media Cards
The official Smartmedia site describes capacities up to 64MB and mentions "128MB or larger", but if larger than 128 was possible, it seems the format fell out of favour before it was implemented.

Ah! I was getting confused because I've just upgraded from a Nikon F601 which is a 35mm SLR!

Just checked http://www.mymemory.co.uk and it seems they have nothing bigger than 128MB in Smart Media either.
Sorry.
