STB broken (probably) - what will replace it?
Hi,
My STB (Pace 4010 - Langley area) appears to be having a problem - doesn't get past 'starting' and can't change channel, use interactive, etc.
I am leaving it unplugged over night, but I'm not very hopeful.
When NTL replace STB's do we get the option to ask for the same or will it be 'upgraded' to Samsung? Are there still problems with the Samsungs?
I have a separate CM - so no probs there - and we make use of the RF bypass - does the Samsung box have a bypass?
What's the usual turn around for an STB fault these days?
TIA.

You don't get the choice, I'm afraid - it's all down to what the engineer's got in his van. You might get anything from the earliest Pace 4001 to a Pace 4010 or Samsung 2100. For what it's worth, I've got a 4010 and a 2100 at home, and they both work very well, although the Samsung is faster than the Pace.
The Samsung does not have an analogue bypass built in, but one can be fitted by the engineer if necessary. How long it will take for an engineer to call depends on how busy they are in the local area. Could be anything from same day to 2 weeks...

Basically you get what we get from stores. On Langley platforn yor can get a by pass but youmust ask the tech!dont rely on the shineys to pass the info on!99.9% we dont get told jack! And as us in-house techs are being paid off, dont hold your breath!

Panic over - for now.
Rang the DTV faults line and it says there's an area wide loss of DTV in GU14! I'm not alone!!
I guess we wait for you guys to sort it out
Thanks for the replies anyway.

Well - the area fault is now fixed, but my box isn't. Even worse now - no signal at all (maybe better than Sky One ) except RF bypass and no LED's on front!
Engineer booked for tomorrow AM.

Re: STB broken (probably) - what will replace it?
Well engineer turned up this morning took one look and pulled a nice shiny Samsung out it's box. He even had the RF bypass - CS obviously got it right this time.
Only snag is 'long hit delays' in the area, so the new box hasn't picked up most the channels yet. Said it should do within 'a couple of hours'.
From what I've seen so far the Samsung is much faster than my old Pace

Not yet! After four hours I phoned CS and they said no one had put the new box/card no on the system (heard the eng quote it twice to his office) and the usual 24-48 hour delay
