Welsh First Minister Vaughan Gething resigns after four ministers resigned

Four members of the Welsh Government have resigned over Welsh First Minister Vaughan Gething's leadership and called for him to step down.

This is related to a row over a controversial donation, a ministerial sacking and the lost no-confidence vote.

It looks unlikely that Gething can hang on.

I agree. A shame really as he seemed a natural successor to Mark Drakeford, both were prominent throughout COVID; he seems to have had all the cards but played the wrong hand. Quite the fall from grace really for a talented man.

Mr Gething said he had "taken the difficult decision to BEGIN the process of stepping down".
He won't even stand down immediately. May the investigations into his acts mean he also has to leave the Arsembly altogether, and face criminal investigation.

He can’t actually resign without going to see Charlie Farley, and even then he’s unlikely to formally leave the post until the new FM is chosen. Whatever else he’s done, that’s the correct procedure and he can’t be faulted for following it.

Maybe he can hire Trump's lawyers. They're on a roll at the moment.

The way Welsh Labour manged the Welsh economy and public services are the template for the UK. Enjoy!

Re: A third of the Welsh government resigns

Eluned Morgan has been confirmed as the new Welsh Labour leader and will succeed Vaughan Gething as first minister of Wales.

Re: A third of the Welsh government resigns

"(Eluned Morgan) introduced a plan with several targets, but the truth is they've all been missed or are on track to be missed:

Nobody should be waiting longer than a year for their first outpatient appointment by the end of 2022. Yet, 18 months on, there were still 70,299 cases where people had been waiting longer

No patients should be waiting longer than two years for treatment in most specialities by March 2023. As of May, there were still 22,455 people waiting longer, a figure that has started to rise again after two years of improvement

No patients should be waiting longer than one year in most specialities by spring 2025. In May, there were 154,872 cases where people had been waiting more than a year. Far from being on a trajectory to hit this target, the latest statistics show this figure has been rising over the most recent four months".

I know it will be a shoein but isn't guaranteed that she will be first minister.
