New Tivo 6 problems

I had a tivo box and a V+ box. I asked for the TiVo to be replaced with the new V6 box. One of the reasons for this was that, with both boxes in the same room there was conflict with both using IR remotes. The new V6 apparently uses RF. Aha I thought the V6 would solve that problem and I particularly wanted to keep the V+ box
Yesterday the engineer arrived with The V6 but told me that If I keep the old V+ box this would conflict with the new V6 and would not work correctly ie would not record?. So I am left with an old Tivo and the new V6. this should not be a problem. Except. The old TiVo IR remote operates both boxes and the new V6 remote also operates both boxes with both units in the same room which is not what I want. However, I then discover that the RF signal is so strong that I can operate the V6, which is down stairs with the remote which is up in the farthest bedroom. According to the information provided, you can link the new V6 boxes ie transfer items between them. If however as I've discovered the RF signal is so strong. there will be conflict when operating two or more boxes from different rooms with different users. This does suggest that there is a problem with the RF signal/strength which will require investigating.
Also, why does the V6 cause problems with the V+ or, is this being used as an excuse to phase out the V+ box?

Re: New Tivo 6 problems

Can I ask why they are in the same room?

Anything IR will interfere if there are more than 1 of the same in the one place.

Re: New Tivo 6 problems

When in RF mode, the V6 remote is paired with a specific V6 box, so they won't interfere with each other even if you do have more than one V6. But the IR remotes (or a V6 remote that is working in IR mode) will operate any box that is in range.

There is no technical reason you couldn't have kept the V+. But the work order would have told him which box was to be replaced. That was done by the person who entered it.

Re: New Tivo 6 problems

Thanks, that makes sense, did not realise that the RF pairing could be made in different frequences.
