How long do Modem boxes tend to last?

			Hi,
I wanted to get a loose view on how long do these modem boxes tend to work for, physically? They can work for ten years can't they?

For example the box I have access to is from the Talk Talk service, used since June 2014.

Modems rarely go wrong. What does tend to happen over time is that connection speeds start to outpace the modem.

			I see.
Well, the speed is quite fast on here, it isn't that fast, 2mb or something. May be a bit more than that.

 | In a benign (cool, dry) environment domestic electronics has at least 10 years life. I have a Hi-Fi amplifier that is still going strong after 40 years. Has only needed the odd pilot bulb replaced.

As Pip says it's much more likely that it becomes obsolete before it packs up.

Think of how many perfectly good tube tellys have gone for re-cycling just because flat screens are so popular.

I have a CRT, nearly ten years old. I use it for television, and Playstation, Xbox, PS2, and an Xbox 360.
I see, about the longevity of hardware. Forty years, a amplifier, late 70's...

And as for web speeds, that depends on where one lives, i live in North central London.

I would have expected you to get better speeds than 2Mb in London.

I did a speed test via Bing search engine, download speed is 27MB. Upload, nearly 1MB.
I have then tried speedtest.com , 15MB. Upload similar to the bing speed test.

try this and see what you gethttp://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
try to do it during the day though to get an accurate result and not during the weekend or evening when they is going to be heavy load on the network.
