Dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

Since I upgraded to the 200mps my speed has gradually been dropping, last night I carried out a wired speedtest and was getting 2.6mps at best, this morning I have done another wired test at got 3.6mps

I called VM last night to report it and the "operative screwed up my modem, could not fix it and then said "all our computers have gone off I will call back in 10 minutes" after 90 minutes and no call we had to call back, and thankfully the person we spoke to got it working again, but no improvement in performance. we have the superhub 2

any suggestions where the fault may lay?

I carried out a diagnostic test on VM website, and it said all was working fine.

Could that affect download speeds? Upload speeds are fine on a speed test

Re: dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

could the fact that hes only using 8 downstream channels also be a factor here?

Probably just down to over subscribed area or heavy usage then as many others are complaining on the Virgin Media forums for all over the country... really sucks

Re: Dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

Yeah 8 channels is more than enough for 100meg, 1 channel is capable of like 50mbits of bandwidth so if he's only getting 10mbit on 8 channels, there's a fault (And by fault, that could be congestion).

Re: Dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

I am trying to get in touch with someone at Virgin to see if it is congestion and if there is any time frame for a fix

Re: Dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

If it's not congestion, it's a flat out fault. Either way yeah, you're best talking to them.

Re: Dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

No congestion they said or faults in the area, so no idea. Will need to investigate more. My local connection is solid. 488Mbps to my NAS when streaming a film.

Re: Dramatic drop in speed since 200mps upgrade

I've noticed this too. Connections were fine on 152 but since getting bumped up to 200 I am getting constant YouTube buffering (when before it was great) and I don't get much more speedwise than I did before - usually hovering around the 137Mb on a good day and 110Mbs the rest of the time.

I might as well drop down to the 100Mb !
