Just had a second (Samsung) TiVo box installed as main box. Older Cisco TiVo now in bedroom. New Sammy cannot output DD 5.1 from recordings. Cisco box could. Am aware of fix (set to PCM output) but isn't really a solution as PCM is 2 channels only. Using Panny home cinema system connected via optical link.
Is this a Cisco/Samsung problem? Should I insist on a Cisco replacement? Tried calling VM but gave up after 15 mins on hold.
Yes, thought of that. But before I confront VM and demand they provide the correctly specified equipment they are contracted for, I want to know whether this is a Cisco/Samsung problem. I'll be lucky if VM will fully understand the problem.
There is a long thread on the VM forum about this, there was a software update in the summer that broke the optical output. It does appear to only effect the Samsungs so you can ask for a Cisco replacement but I think it always depends on what the engineer has on their van on the day.
I must admit I'm still pretty peeved about this and it takes the mick that 5 months later still no fix!
