Zumba Classes For NHS Staff To Cut Sickness [I think its too late]
http://news.sky.com/story/1545213/zu...o-cut-sickness
The NHS is our national pride, and is always the helm of any election vote
But the CEO of NHS England has brought this new idea, that they should look after there staff, to help cure the high sickness rate for staff.
I have a simple solution - pay there staff, from below stairs as they say, right up to Drs and Nurses decent pay. This is why they always strike for decent pay
And l heard that some Drs and Nurses, have to pay parking fees to work at the hospital where they work
And they also have to pay rent on accommodation
This would relieve stress from the staff, and this is half the problem solved. We have a chronic shortage staff in this country for Nurses, and its always hard to get good Drs
This would also help to decrease sickness, and stop hospitals using Agency Staff that cost the NHS thousands per year
I am sure there are members will say that l am whinging, but most companies do have arrangements with local Gyms

You got that right.
Also your rambling, if by paying them more will stop them taking sick days then the sick days they do take are fraudulent & they need to be held accountable for BS'ing thier snickness & be sacked.
Spend a moment to think before you ramble Arfur

No, no more than anyone else. Where does all this "extra money" come from? shall we pay teachers less so NHS can pay more to their staff? What about taking a few % out of the police, fire, armed sevices wage packets? Oh I know lets all pay more taxes to pay for these wage rises. HeyZeus ach Christo you would be first to bitch, whine, complain & moan if taxes went up.

Well duh!! of course they do, you think they should live rent free?
How would paying them more decrease sickness exactly? If my work gave me more money I would still take sick leave when needed?
My work has its own gym but its still £25 a month so most people don't use it.

What a shocker that people who work with the sick have a higher rate of being off sick themselves than someone working in an office :p

Plenty of 'office jobs' are highly stressful both private and public sector.

Re: Zumba Classes For NHS Staff To Cut Sickness [I think its too late]
Interesting report from NHS Wales.
Quote:
The top two reasons for sickness absence are Musculoskeletal (25%) and Anxiety/Stress/other psychiatric–related problems (23%).
Unknown causes and not specified still account for 21% of sickness.
|
Unusual for a work-place that just over one-fifth of sickness absences should be to unknown or not specified causes.

My previous gf was a nurse, had been in the position about 3 years, very hard working and never off sick. She was called into the office one day (This was 10 years ago) and asked why she hadn't used any sick days, she was then told that she needed to take some of these sick days.
It appears that sick day entitlement was treated like additional holidays by most nurses in that trust, and someone not taking them reflected badly on the others.

They could soon turn that around by not paying for absences for a 'no specified' sickness absence.
All staff ought to be obliged to speak to an occupational health nurse when reporting sick, to receive information and guidance on their symptoms. The first three days of sickness should be unpaid.
That package of measures, together with a proper system to monitor and limit the number of short term absences before action is taken will resolve this problem.
Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen without government intervention of some sort because NHS Human Resources departments are too weak.
