50Mb areas

Hello

I know next to nothing about Ubr's ect. So this might be a dumb question.

Right, i live in the south east area of glasgow about 4 miles from Uddingston and i've read that the 50Mb is now live there, However i'm on the Renfew Ubr and after talking to the nice folk on virgin's customer care i was informed that there is no info on when Renfrew will be upgraded.

As i'm only 4 miles away from Uddingston and about 9 miles from Renfew is thier anyway i could be switched over onto Uddingston's Ubr so i can get the 50Mb just now or do i have to wait ?

Thanks for any info

Deakin.

You have to wait, Uddingston hasn't been upgraded yet. This is where I connect to.
They won't switch you over.

Re: 50Mb areas

Hi Mags

Thanks for the reply, can you do me a favour a check your postcode here please ?

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/50Mb/index.do

Only reason i ask is that the person who informed me about the upgrade(on another forum) swears blind that he's allready booked an install date.

EDIT :

Just checked using an Uddingston postcode(g718pb) and it is available in the bothwell area,so if you live close to there mags your good to go.

Re: 50Mb areas

50 meg is available in Uddingston (ex-Telewest), but not in Renfrew (ex-NTL) yet. If you are fed from the Renfrew headend I'm afraid you'll just have to be patient. You can't be connected to a different headend.

Yes, I'm close to Bothwell but still no 50 meg available yet.

Just checked the postcode page and it says I can get 50meg, selfcare says I can't. I'll wait a while.

Re: 50Mb areas

It is avaliable in Uddi-I'm in a ML* ***postcode and I can get it

One thing-just because an area may have been upgraded, it will be up to VM sales when they release it. The two can be mutually exclusive :-)

Glasgow will be later, methinks

It doesn't work that way.. When they install the new modem for 50Mb/s you would move to one of the new CMTSs that support 50Mb/s.. It is overlayed on top of the DoCSIS 1.0 System.

Re: 50Mb areas

Uddingston was Enabled on friday of last week.

Last I heard Renfrew is due to be enabled for 50MB by about April time.

Re: 50Mb areas

Thanks for your interest in 50 Mbit/s.

We're rolling out 50 Mbit/s between December 2008 and July 2009 across the UK.

I'm pleased to tell you that Peterborough is in the next phase; we're currently expecting to launch in your area on 29th January.

Do make sure you're pre-registered to be alerted as soon as the service is available and please don't hesitate to contact me with any queries.

Best
